JUDGEDREDD
Imagine how hard it must be working in a McDonald's for pittance. Actually working flat out for 7 hours. I'd probably have a nervous breakdown and fry my face off to end the suffering.

I worked in one when I was 16. Being in the kitchen is much better than being on the till. Lunch and dinner time were busy but there were lots of times you'd be standing around doing nothing. I always had a cloth on me to make sure I looked busy!

I've done catering (grill chef, barman, function waiter / manager, pot wash), it's pretty fun tbh.

Well the service is pretty fun - the cleaning et al is absolutely shit.

I work pretty hard but at caertain times of the year, so February, March, May, June, start of July, half of September and October are hardcore - along the lines on Snakey's misses but even longer.

What's left of the rest of the year I am pretty fucking lazy though and can get away with doing very little

Now jobless. 6-8 month break, do a travel, wait and see what happens with brexshit and either fuck off elsewhere for good on the wife's teaching job or set up new business next year if the madness ends and this country stops making a cunt out of itself.

Gotta send an email campaign this afternoon, finally logged into Mailchimp.

Feels like I've made solid progress, probably time for a break, right?

I work pretty hard in general. 8:30am until about 6:30pm most days, probably working for about 90% of that time. Still way more efficient than most colleagues. At some times it gets silly but then when there’s not much going on over the summer I’ll be in at 9 and out at 5.

Remember when I worked in management consulting and I can count the times I worked past 11pm on one hand. There were people there who regularly worked until 2-4am every day. They were either very inefficient or couldn’t say no to their boss.

Then again I really enjoy my job and make bank doing it. Without pressure I would do all my work in a few hours then skive and get ridiculously bored.

Also having said that I’m posting in this thread whilst a colleague presents something in the same room :S

It's counterproductive too, I don't care what any says you cannot work more than 14 hours without performance dropping.... regardless of what you do.

Rock in at 10, leave when I want, take as long as I want for lunch and my most important meetings are boozy lunches.

Not hard.

The older I get, the harder it is to motivate for work and be a cainer. Used to be able to juggle them quite nicely in my 20’s.

Isn't that how all emails are dealt with?

Similarly, if you CC me in, I am not going to pay attention to the email tbh

No, sometimes they're urgent - a hospital cant perform any bloodtests etc. In that case, I deal with them the next morning, unless they call.

I'd have thought that would happen well before 14 tbh. From my experience the places where people work 9+ hours are noticeably more moody compared to places where people were doing 8 or less for a start.

I find the 4 day weeks after a bank  holiday to be way more productive. Let's face it, Mondays and Fridays are usually a write off for most people.

The 5 day working week is a scam and whoever created it deserves a punch in the mouth.

I think I'd rather do 5 shorter days than 4 full length ones personally provided that there wasn't a long commute involved but that's probably just me.

Re: How hard do you work? 2019/01/09 16:25:36 (permalink)
i'd say it's peaks and troughs with me. if there's a big pitch on then it's long hours, day after day. you get the odd week though where there's fuck all on and pub lunches then home at 5. personally, i like to be busy, so my current job is fairly ideal because it's a reliable five or six hours work a day, with decent amount of time for interneting, without too many mad weeks

i've done some jobs though where it was 13 hours most days and normally a weekend day too. advertising is really bad for ultra-competitive, brown nose pricks who value staying late above actual quality of work. i hated being made to feel bad for leaving at 8pm to go to a gig or something

i worked in one agency where we hired a new video editor who literally did not go home for his first two weeks on the job! fuck that. like badrid said, it's completely counterproductive. performance drops and you start to resent everyone

Dreading going back to work after mat leave. I think I will be a lot more efficient when I go back though as I won't wNt to work a minute past my contracted hours so will make sure I get shit done.
Being a mum is defo the busiest I've ever been though as you have to be on it 24/7 and there is always stuff to do.
I enjoy it way more than work though
