Metalheads

Nope, not with a "z".

The secret shame thread reminded me to post this. Off-topic, marginal interest, opening myself up to all sorts of pisstaking, WHAT-FUCKING-EVER. If it interests half as many people as Whowhere's gabber thread (i.e. 2 or 3) then it's worth it.

Suffice to say that all of this is still second to my main preference of DnB although I go through phases. And I've quite happily been mixing in Decrepit Birth and Allegaeon with Teebee's Black Science Labs, Origin Unknown's Sound In Motion, Mala boiler room set (I fucking love this), Pinch boiler room set, Djinn's jungle train mix AND DNBTV set, and No U-Turn's Torque in the last week or so. Bite me.

Classics:

The most classic DM album ever? From the guys who pretty much invented goregrind, then tech-death, then melodic death, then the comeback after nearly 20 years.

Although this gives them a run for money for sheer quality and weight.

And their early album got some John Peel plays. World Eater is world class.

Lighter, but this got me into metal. Still amazingly, phenomenally catchy riffage.

https://www.youtube.com/w...jgyOOg_9o08IPb2huUFucA
Lighter in terms of sound but massively heavy in atmosphere alt-rock.

https://www.youtube.com/w...j4J-BfltZ07t1j6f4B519Y
Although for pure creativeness, these guys were unmatched and flawlessly funky.

Recent:

Amazingly lives up to it's title. Classic pure DM. Graven Desires is amazing.

And their debut is nearly as great.

Modern classic eco-warrior tech death with a fantastic opener.

Outrageous and flamboyant epic tech-deathcore.

https://www.youtube.com/w...PDto_nEtwwSQVxH-7WN4Ke
As mighty as the name suggests, a weighty maelstorm of blasphemy and heresy.

The kings of sci-fi themed melodic tech death.

Yup, seriously.

https://www.youtube.com/w...rPF3bZkdCjptNFVBwJoy6p
More sci-fi theme, but this time with the upmost intensity and brutality

Poland's second best export. Blindness is an amazing track.

Excellently varied album from tech death masters.

Very proper well-rounded album.

More proper, mature, catchy riffed DM

Any metal-related list needs "art metal beserkers" Rolo in it even if they are far outside the bounds of convention. Stunning, wall-of-emotion female-fronted creativeness.

Seriously. They are cutting edge for guitar-based music.

Or if that's too much emotion, how about getting inside the machine. What a comeback by these guys.

Extreme:

No comments needed but I've bought all of these...

This music and majority of the fans I've met are very far from "gay", but after years and years of listening to electronic music, I just can't get into this. I like the odd few songs but that's about it. Maybe if you're hench then moshing would be great fun, but I don't even care for that really. Just give me a good system, decent tunes and space on the dance floor.

System of a Down
Lamb or God
Tool

These are pretty much the only bands I've come across that I like.

Don't listen to much metal these days, used to love it back in the 90s though. Especially as it started evolving and incorporating outside influences.

Meshuggah is probably the only metal band I listen to regularly nowadays. Actually just bought tickets to see them in Bristol next year. Love that heavy groove downtuned style. A lot of the riffs are incredibly similar to basslines you'd find in dnb or dubstep. Plus the complexity of their music is something to behold. I struggle to follow some of the polyrhythms, let along fucking play them.

I don’t like the music, but some of the artwork from the YouTube clips posted earlier is excellent. Makes drum and bass artwork look shit and amateur.

Seen these guys live a few times. The singer has 4 toes on one foot after shooting one of them off 'cleaning his favourite shotgun'

Ah shit yeah, forgot about Deftones. Im a big fan of Black Peaks too, not sure if they're strictly metal though.

some great music - metal and dnb ain't that far removed in some aspects

felt like quite a natural progression to go from metal gigs to raves

enjoying going to gigs a lot more at the moment, not been to a dnb night for a while

need to get summit sorted really.

Metal is probably one of the genres I like least. Don't really know why as I like quite a bit of hard rock stuff. I like a few Black Sabath bits (especially for when they were made), and a few Tool bits too, eg:

Deftones are one of the few bands I listened to as a teenager which have aged well.
Around the Fur and White Pony are both still so sick

yeah deftones sound is timeless it appears

still sounds so big and well produced and relevant

i think the vague poetic lyrics that kind of helped it to age well too

such a unique sound

Still listen to Deftones loads because they are awesome.

Other than that really just the odd bit of hardcore/ punk here and there.

And a bit of MM every now and then, gotta love a bit of Brian. Really like that cover he’s done quite recently (i think) of Cry Little Sister from Lost Boys.
