The 11 'o clock show was superb. So much talent launched on it. Shame it left our screens really, would be better than 99% of television even now.

Da Ali G Show is the greatest comedy show of all time. FACT.

I wonder if its use of Dillinja's d'n'b track "Twist 'Em Out" as part of the theme tune may have subconciously influenced your opinion here. (excuse me... your FACT.)

I did enjoy at the end of the show where he'd invite a band/artist on to perform then play jungle over the top

Nothing to do with it, no show makes me laugh as much after seeing it so many times, only thing that comes close is I'm Alan Partridge, was never one of my favourite tunes anyway tbh.

Ali G was massive, the film is still jokes. The Borat sections in the early episodes were hilarious, funnier than Ali G at the time imo

I didn’t really check the Bruno stuff

It was OK. Not quite the return to form I was hoping for but the Israeli guy was good.

Whatever he comes out with is going to be decent but it's unlikely he'll ever hit those late 90s/early 00s highs. Bit like Eminem really.

The Ali G clip where he interviews the vet still kills me every time I watch it. Perfect balance of cringe moments, quotables and an interviewee who buys into it and starts losing his faith in humanity by the end of it. The long slow headshake at the end is the best thing he's ever done.

I found it a mixed bag when it was actually on.

It was pretty good overall, but at the time Ali G was clearly head and shoulders above the other acts on the show.

Daisy Donovan was OK but not all that, Crook seemed very uncomfortable most of the time, Iain Lee was hit and miss and Gervais was consistently unfunny- it amazed me when he turned up with The Office and how good it was.

Out of the lot of them I think Crook has produced the work I would still want to watch in 20 years.

A lot of it was probably enhanced by the thrill of being a 12/13 year old trying to nick edgy comedy after lights out on school nights tbf.

I'd have thought my 12 year old self would have been pretty euphoric about the 11 O'Clock show. I think the fact that it had a fairly gloves off approach and a willingness to break a few eggshells was what gave it the edge, sometimes it would be funny, sometimes it was just tasteless but you'd always get some good punches on target with someone. The links felt more like a live show, but that just added to the feel that they had written most of it that day.

I remember Tommy Vance always did the intro on the day they started bombing Serbia, before the opening titles rolled his disembodied head wearing a steel helmet barking in his stentorian voice "IT'S WAR!!!"

Well the first episode wasn’t great eh?

The bit with the gun nuts was decent but the other stuff was poor. Trying to rile Bernie Sanders was pointless and I didn’t understand why the artist bit was there at all. The liberal bloke too was just stupid. He said some crazy weird things but didn’t really get any reaction. It was like a shit version of when Borat goes to the nice dinner and brings his turd back to the table.

Also, Gervais was painfully unfunny on the 11 o’clock show. Remember discussing how shit he was with friends then all of a sudden he turns out to actually be a comedy genius a few years later.

It almost became part of the joke that Gervais would be wheeled out, and say really awkward, unfunny tasteless stuff, and then skulk off. But it wasn't part of the joke, it was just shit.

Too many really cringey / shocking moments with the Kingman Arizona rednecks, Jason Spencer and Corinne Olympios not painting themselves in a particularly good light.

Interviewing Dick Cheney - “I have killed some terrorists. How does it feel being the king of terrorist killers? I mean, you killed 100,000 actual terrorists and about 700,000 potential terrorists"
