it was #2 on the billboard rap chart for 95, it was a big tune.

the accapella counts for its sampling popularity, not many singles had them. and the lines are very sample-able.

that Red & Meth track was huge and Wu Tang were already being sampled to death by Hype, Zinc et al but yeah, it's weird how many lines off it were sampled - Ready Or Not, 6 Million Ways, Punks, Funk Phenomenon...

Not forgetting this

No worries Mo. Bring Down The Birds

That reminds me when I first heard this;

Herbie Hancock - Chameleon

Years after hearing this;

Kool G Rap - Money On My Brain
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AsSZLbT-oY

Had an enjoyable little spazzout. I like the different dynamic when you've heard the sampler before you've heard the samplee.

Although strictly not a sample, similarly heard 'MCs Act Like They Don't Know' ages before 'The Breaks'. In my ignorance of the reference point, had always thought the intro was a bit peculiar.

Obviously there's that site that tells you

presumably by "that site" you're referring to https://www.whosampled.com/ (unless there's another place with a similarly impressive database, which I doubt).

also, I'll just leave this here...

Fucking love this stuff!!
Not enough shit gets sampled these days, it's becoming a bit of a lost art, especially in D&B where it's all about super clean, ultra/overproduced science projects rather than just chucking things together in a sequencer and making a groove.

SIGS, EVERYTHING SIGS.

I am not sure we needed a massively tedious explanation of the Amen break voiced by a monotone American, but you go ahead... it's fine to join in.

PS are you american by the way? that would go some way to explaining your "yag for ye" monologue.

for years I thought the 'check check check' bit in Circles was the Run DMC sample used by everyone else ("aah, check dis out...123 in the place to be" etc")

It's actually off the beginning of this

thanks for letting me join in. wasn't aware I needed your permission, but next time I feel like making a 100% relevant, valid and informative contribution to a thread on here I'll make sure it gets your "approval" first before I dare to go ahead and post it okay? (sarcasm)

Noc in clueless fat wanker shocker.

Tune was huge, I guess you missed it when you were going through your stage of being a manic depressive munching brasses out.

Jesus. Sounding a bit triggered there fella, U OK hun?

Fair dues, I was probably wrong about quite how big a 94 hip hop tune was but to be fair I was only 15 when it came out. You must have been about 10? Hardly worth getting so worked up about though, surely?

As for those weird angry digs, guilty as charged on most of them but I’ve never been manic depressive (well not manic anyway) and I don’t know where you’re getting munching out brasses from. Never have never will. The irony of you digging anyone out for doing depraved shit with ladies of the night is fantastic though.

Not the sort of word I’d use in conversation but considering he went full 2008 Badrid on me for not fully appreciating the commercial success of a 24 year old Red and Meth tune I reckon it’s pretty fair.

People who know you IRL ratted you out for being a desperate fat loser who couldn’t nick a bird and spent hours plating a brass 😂 I’ve got no reason to make shit up really, I could draw for much more personal shit as you know.

You’re just a fat mug really, keep my name out of your mouth and I’ll do the same.
