Jesus, that's really poor! Feels like 2 tracks stuck together. The intro (the better part of the track IMO and that's bloody saying something) bares absolutely no relation to the drop. Do Noisia make anything with any groove anymore or is it all just soulless, albeit technically incredible, poop?

I’m a pretty big Noisia fan, up until a couple of years ago I loved their stuff, since then they’ve become a bit too experimental for me, that’s not typical of the stuff they make really. Outer Edges is a better reflection of their current sound. People forget they’ve been around for 15 years now, they have had a longer career than a lot of the OGs! Their back cat is incredible imo.

Mostly the latter now. I know my earlier post read as snarky, but I do still have a lot of respect for Noisia and their talents, and like Dreamworld said they have been around a long time now, so it's understandable they would want to diversify and try new sounds. But in terms of the quality of their tunes from a dance floor perspective they’ve been in a steady decline since their first album came out in my opinion. The quality of engineering has remained phenomenal but the grooves and vibes aren’t there to my ears.

Their electro stuff sent them to the next level, they gave the dnb scene a shot in the arm when they first came through imo.

Their early dnb is still so good.

I would go further than that, upto 2014 for me. Stuff like Program, Friendly Intentions, Imperial EP and Purpose EP which was as good an example of 8 A sides that you’ll find in a DnB EP of this style imo.

I remember in an interview a few years back they said they wanted to make their tunes tell more of a story, even if it was at the expense of being DJ friendly. I can understand it from a producers point of view but as a DJ I need something to work with, I’m not expecting every tune to start with beats but if it’s just a string or something it doesn’t leave much choice but to start from later on in the track, something that has always bugged me and usually leads me to skip past it when I’m flicking through tunes.

I still rate them really highly for pure production skills, they have got mountains of outboard equipment in their studios now and are constantly experimenting and trying new stuff.

Program and Friendly Intentions era stuff was alright but those tunes are so ridiculously loud they sound obnoxious next to anything apart from Subfocus or other big room tech tunes. Not much in the way of dynamics. It's still good stuff but a bit more throwaway than their classic material imo.

Fair point, with the earlier stuff it all sounds like it’s desiged to work well in the mix, so many of the tunes just keep rolling forever. The time around Split The Atom they seemed to be writing more tunes that would totally kill a sound system on their own. For me I loved this era as it was like they were throwing all they could at making tunes to rock a crowd but I guess they haven’t aged as well as the deeper stuff.
