New Years Resolutions

Don't normally do new years resolutions but there's some obvious changes that I need to make to my life. Here's mine.

Don't do any shovel for the whole year
Go on my phone a lot less
Lose weight
Don't use credit cards

Let's find the old resolutions thread and see how much we all failed.

http://forum.breakbeat.co.uk/tm.aspx?m=1976008349

100k bench 1rm = Fail (rotator injury)
Start dead lifting and squatting = Fail ^
10% BF = Fail ^
Get my drivers licence = Fail (moved abroad)
Reading before bed, no phones. = Win, reading is a regular habit.
Less coffee = Win, I can take it or leave it if I pleaseeeee
More tripping  = Win, had a pretty fruity jungle trip.
Get back into photography = Win, got into nature photography.

All in all, been a good year.

Whilst not a resolution as such as no one sticks to them I'm off to start a new life up north and get out of dodge for a fresh start and try not to fuck myself up again.

Re: New Years Resolutions 2017/12/27 18:15:17 (permalink)
not so much resolutions but a to do list:

finish some music production for once
get our decorating finished this year
run a half marathon
visit japan
do a fuck (maybe make a baby, ugh)

i don't need to give up anything as I barely drink anymore and haven't smoked in nearly 3 years. could cut back on the weed a bit I guess but it's not having any adverse effect on my life so, why bother?

edit: also get my back looked at. put it off for far too long worrying it's about to snap in half.

This year I want to sort out my terrible concentration issues and get on top of managing my work load at work and at home.

I am now certain that I have undiagnosed ADHD and am booked in to see a psychiatrist in February for testing. I'm cautiously optimistic that meds for that could help sort me out.

Enjoy music as much as I have this year Not sure if I managed this however I did listen to more relaxing music and hopefully Alexa will help once delivered
Try and lose a little weight and get fitter Not sure about the weight as I seemed to have put on muscle but stayed at the same weight, so I suspect I have lost fat
Read more - Mrs got me a Kindle as I broke my last one about a year ago so got a good chance of this Managed this
Get back in to some form of fighting when my knee is sorted - thinking BJJ Started Kickboxing in January and been going twice a week since

Goals for this year are to actually have a fight of some form, read more, listen to more music and continue to try to get fitter

Stop leaving my bike in the office and actually use it as transport - FAIL (got stolen)
Save tax money aside instead of panicking at year end - semi win
Drink less booze - massive win
Get less angry in general - FAIL
Stop buying trainers instead of important things like new bike lights - FAIL
Stop dating wastemen - FAIL

Are you doing Muay Thai? If you're already training a couple of times a week, then do whatever you need to do in order to be able to spar at your gym, and you're halfway to getting an interclub fight (I.e supposedly "controlled hard sparring match") although in my early days I took part in, and also refereed interclubs, which often escalated more violently than pro fights.

Getting a pro fight of some sort is a heavier commitment, but certainly achievable in a year with dedication.

Kickboxing and K1, not much muay Thai and won't be looking to fight in that discipline more than likely K1

Not interested in Pro as that is not achievable and I want goals to keep. Inter is what I am looking to do in the year ahead, we spar on a regular basis although mainly controlled power which personally unless you are Pro I don't see the benefit of going full 100%.

For the last two years I keep telling myself I need to go back to it but still haven't done it.

That's fair enough. But just be aware that whilst interclubs are supposed to be controlled, they can get out of hand. People in the ring for the first time and just go mad, and for a lot of "hardmen" they see it as the a chance to give someone a good shoeing, in the knowledge that people aren't likely to go full tilt at them in return... If possible have your first interclub at your own gym, or at a very reputable "away" gym.

Although the vast majority are fine...

I was certainly not a fan of 100% power sparring... at my first gym it never happened, but at my 2nd gym where I fought pro, we did full power sparring two weeks before the fight. I guess the coach was just more old-skool. I suppose it can help... we had some massive Eastern Europeans and a Palestinian nutcase in our gym, and none of them could put me down, which was a worry, as I was more of a point scorer than a heavy hitter. So I went into the fight confident I wouldn't get ko'd... but the potential, for injury was massive...
