I'm not sure an artist necessarily needs to be consistent over a long period to be considered a great, what about the ones that come into the scene, fuck it up like a whirlwind then politely disappear before we get a chance to become bored of them.

People like Crystl or Cool Hand Flex for example.

Cool Hand Flex never really went away. He's doing stuff now.

Boymerang, Skanna and Crystl are the best of that ilk.

Yeah they are better examples actually. Flex is a hero to me for his 92-3 stuff, I guess that is the era I associate him with as he was so on point. Bizzy B is similar, still around but he had a proper golden era, although it didn't carry on forever he is still a legend for those Brain releases he made back then.

Shy FX is a prime example of an artist who has been consistent over a long period of time.

Even if you don't like all his output, he has a unique ability to see the 'big picture' of music, & rarely gets lost in technical detail/fads. It's clear he keeps his eyes on different scenes, & then contributes when feels inspired to.

Suppose it's not a fair comparison to say Calibre's current output, or Dillinja historically, as it's practically impossible not to exhaust a sound when you're that prolific.

Re. the Dillinja 12":

'Another Dimension' - sounds like 'Angels Fell' time (but nowhere near the quality).
'Humanity' - sounds like 'Simple' from Chronic 1 time (but nowhere near the quality).

obviously you wouldn't agree if you like this lol

I have this on vinyl for some reason. Actually came in a shitty plastic bag rather than a cardboard sleeve. I like Firefox on the flip though.

Yeah. I have to imagine I bought it for the flip but I was doing a lot of drugs back then so who knows.

I remember hearing the 8 bars after the drop and thinking "it'll change in a minute". Nope just repeat for 5 minutes

The new Benny L track Hold It Down on Headz is a Dillinja-Cybotron-esque ting.
