He is apparantly

I'm sure I've seen Randall on either twitter or Instagram mention it but he won't let anyone have any tracks

I'm sure Bryan Gee posted a tearing amen track on Instagram a while which he said was new Dillinja

It seems the same with nearly every producer no matter how legendary they are, they work their way up, find their niche and put out their best work, then when they run out of ideas take a look around at what is popular then try and produce something along those lines, usually not as well as the people that carved out that new sound.

This is so true, if you think about it, most of the best musical acts in this genre span over 3/4 years then they either get with the times (become generic to fit in with the latest trend), become irrelevant or move on to something else.

Even Bad Company reforming doesn't sound as convincing as when they first broke through for example.

Dillinja is just the victim of his own success, how many times can he make the same tune with distorted 808 bass and those signature drums till everyone gets bored and the times move on.

Marcus Intalex and D Bridge are pretty much the only exceptions to this rule I can think of, remember Photeks last album? Me neither.

When was the last time D-Bridge made a 'True Romance'? Tetris is probably the last thing he's been involved with that's hard hitting straight up D&B?

Does it have to be upfront/dancefloor to be considered a quality tune? D-Bridge has been making some of the best and most innovative drum and bass for about the last twelve years. Save the Autonomic (sp) stuff. I really wasn't feeling that.

D Bridge is a dappa. Him and Dillinja would make a lethal combo. Imagine a Bring Da Flava remix, would be serious!

Calibre is presumably an exception to this rule.

It wasn't quite as good as I hoped either but I like those beats on the B side, the same as the ones on my favourite track on the Black Wax EP.

Sorry for ranting in the football thread the other day btw Law, I was going to PM you but I saw that your PMs are fucked. It wasn't meant how it probably came across.

I mean they're OK... The start of each clip had me pretty excited. But nothing happens. Both tunes are pretty stale after 2 minutes. He must have better tunes sitting on DAT....  IMO..... 1st release on this label should have had some absolute war tune, with one (or both) of these two on the flip. But WADDA I KNOW EH

Edit... the more I listen to Another Dimension the more I like it.... but still

This is what separates the truly great artists from the just great ones IMO. They'll have a few misses along the way but to be pretty consistently excellent over a period of a decade/decades is a very rare feat.

I've read quotes from dBridge in the past along the lines of he could make hundreds of True Romance style tunes over and and over again, and I'm sure that'd be fine for a while but it wouldn't be creatively inspiring for him and the trick would get pretty boring for us too. His entire catalogue isn't entirely perfect for me - but why would it be? We have different tastes. It's still abundantly clear to me that the guy is a proper artist.

And every now and then he'll throw out a tune like Clash Dub just to remind you he's still more than capable of tearing your arse out.
