Occasionally a couple of DJ's say he's working in some new stuff but I haven't heard much for a while. Him and Lemon D were supposed to be relaunching Valve with some non dnb artists they working with, but not much ever came of that AFAIK.

A pity really as I'm one of the few people that still rated his more recent stuff. He managed to stay relevant through the Clipz and G Dub era with tracks like S-Bag that used to devastate any party, when a lot of the original 90's producers drum and bass tunes had started to sound dated (Roni Size for example).

He's been quiet for ages now, would love to hear some new stuff

Good point. Even though I didn't like.much of his stuff past 2002, he still did what he did best.

Best dnb producer ever.

Wish he'd come back just for on metalheadz 12"

I'm sure I've seen Randall on either twitter or Instagram mention it but he won't let anyone have any tracks

I'm sure Bryan Gee posted a tearing amen track on Instagram a while which he said was new Dillinja

I agree the last few bits he done wasn't great but would still smash it. Shiners being one of them. Reading the thread about certain turning points in d&b got me thinking about the Cybatron album and how long that was on dub for. The reaction the tunes got from the album in clubs was immense. All aboard or go dillinja always brings great memories back from the end club.

I agree with you Law about producing something aimed at a metalheadz audience would be good!

This had made me remember the Metalheadz histrory night the other year. Not only did he tear is up with his set most of the DJs were caning his tunes that night.

I think i was there. Was a sick night out.

Didn't he drop s-bag or something like that for his first tune and then completely smash it after that? Lol

Out now.

Think it might be mislabelled actually https://domandroland.band...rom-the-dungeons-ddd03

Wait sorry I'm retarded. Didn't realise these were just old tunes. I thought Dillinja had drums again. How naive

Strangely I had never heard either of those tunes but was listening to a Kemi and Storm mix last night and they played Acid Roller.

He did a b2b with Randall at the Moondance Festival in Trent Park. He definitely played a couple of new bits (mixed a jumpupish tune into Massive) which I think were his from Randall's reaction.

Shame I accidentally deleted the footage otherwise I'd have posted it.

Colin, whilst I agree with your point, I disagree about s bag. It was a basic throwaway tune and not his finest work at all

It wasn't his finest work, but S Bag and Oi were played everywhere when they came out and held their own against tracks by all the young and hungry producers of the time.

Cybotron era was my favourite, as my first and main period of going out to drum and bass nights was 1998 to 2002, and there was such a big buzz about the Cybotron tracks that were on dubplate around that time.

Hearing that long intro on Cybotron, surrounded by a thick fog of smoke at Fabric and only being able to see the shadowy arm of someone else on the dance floor and the occasional green laser is one of my favourite memories to look back on. Blaze it Down on that album is very underrated too, the bass and breaks are both tuned to perfection.

S bag and oi were shite imo (but yeah got played everywhere). From that era I quite like shiners and take me all the way. Sub bass on shiners gets pretty intense.

Shiners is terrible. The bass and the screech sound like 2 different tunes playing out of key and out of time. Sounds like he just randomly bashed a keyboard for that screech.

colin is taking the piss guys, s bag is probably the worst dnb tune ever made.

most of his back cat is utter wank. fair enough Hard Noize is one of the goat records and stuff like angels fell and threshold. probably fell off the hardest of any producer or at least on par with roni

Re: Dillinja 2017/09/10 11:46:55 (permalink)
During that era he seemed to be influenced by the jump up of G Dub etc for some reason.

It seems the same with nearly every producer no matter how legendary they are, they work their way up, find their niche and put out their best work, then when they run out of ideas take a look around at what is popular then try and produce something along those lines, usually not as well as the people that carved out that new sound.

Would love to see a comeback in the musical style that he was famed for but I could say the same for a ton of other producers too, I wonder if a time comes when they just can't focus, they get in the studio and just chuck a bunch of sounds together without any real feeling or conviction.

Wouldn't say 'best' as such but definitely my favourite alongside Jonny L. Both have churned out the odd shitter but they're still absolute fucking heroes.

Couldn't find any decent audio of this so i've uploaded it. I've mentioned it 500 times before but one of his most underrated IMO, the build up is ridiculous:

No one has ever made real gangsta sounding dnb like he did in his prime.
