Yeah seems so. Though I'm thinking it might be one of those things that's pointless to make at home cos it's so basic... bit like pastry. Maybe if you had a cow and could get it straight from the teat it would make sense

When my grandparents and parents first arrived there was no paneer in shops. It was made at home.

The only time I had paneer was when I made mutter paneer myself and I think I either used shit paneer or fucked it up as it was a bit rubbery and squeaked on my teeth.

Over cooked. I like mine medium rare or rare but can give stomach ache.

Literally fried for one minute in separate pan then add it to the dish last few minutes I'm cooking. Not everyone will like it that soft tho.

Yeah, thought that might be it. The recipe called for me to fry it until it was brown and I guess the pan wasn't hot enough.

^ Good way of putting it actually.

If you buy the hard block rubbery stuff and want it to be a bit more authentic, you can soak it in water for a while before cooking, I can never be bothered though.

Counting down the minutes til 6pm when my local opens, veg madras, pilau, brinjal bhaji to come.

As soon as I say 'veg madras' on the phone all the guys there say my name, comes with ordering every week for 6 years I guess, great curry too, lucky to have then round the corner.

I get home at 5.40-ish - wish they opened half hour earlier.

It's one of them where you're either fortunate to have a local that serves up good food or you have to travel.

There are no Chinese take aways by me that are good. There's at least 7 within a 2 mile radius and they're all shit. The only place I like ordering from is a restaurant and it works out 30 minutes round trip.

Hersham, Dalston, Tottenham, Walthamstow, Hove, Worthing, Horley - I always end up near good Rubys, weird, or maybe I moved to each because of the Rubys.

I had a lovely chilli paneer and rice for lunch today. There's a really good takeaway place by my work.

There was a place near the Watermans, I last went over 20 years ago, would;t want to vouch for the current ownership just in case tbh. Get a Vindy/Phal somewhere and blast that fucker.

Pity Daz couldn't combine the two really, there's a pop-up that frequents DDC called the English Indian that do a pretty serious take on fish & chips.

I had the pakora battered fish with tikka paneer, masala fries, madras chip shop curry sauce & mint/chilli mushy peas last time.

Saag Paneer is the best side.
Prawn Puree comes 2nd.

Goan Fish curry is my usual main, heat up to a vindaloo (or phall if they allow). Jalfreizi is always a good shout otherwise.

Only need plain rice with an Indian, you get your tastes from everything else. Rice with an Indian is needed, but it's just a fork filler.

I prefer paneer when it's fried to the point of having a touch of crispiness, but then stewed for just long enough so that it starts to take some of that away.

When I get curry out I basically try and avoid whatever I'd make at home. Lamb instead of chicken (cos lamb is nang when its been sitting in a pot for a day), garlic naan instead of rice, rarely get dal or saag paneer cos the markup is huge and I'll be disappointed if it's not the way I like it.

Apparently paneer is really easy to make, I might have to try it some time.

On point with the lamb comment. Lamb marinates well. Chicken is sort of......well still chicken. Must be something about the texture

Ive found a "best" but i know it's not up to standard. After living in London where every cuisine was on my doorstep it's really noticable what people consider ok. I.e fuck trip advisor reviews.

I quite liked Holy Cow. I know this was a bit of a franchise job but from 10+ orders they were fairly decent. Thoughts?
