What happened to the valve soundsystem

Haven't seen it advertised at any nights for a long time.

Twitter/FB are a bit naked on the subject too; reckon he just prefers gigs to the whole 'moving a 96k system around' hassle.

I remember seeing parts of it being sold on eBay a few years back, but presumed they were just upgrading / replacing parts. They don't lug the whole system around they often just took a few stacks to add to the in house system.

Over the years a few factors mean bringing the full system out is less worthwhile:
- Lightweight switchmode amplifiers now challenge the Crests for weightiness
- There is a much better availability of good subs available on local rental markets, meaning it's harder to justify lugging ASS scoops across the country
- They replaced the top end with FK1 anyway, and this is generally readily available on local rental markets, so again hard to justify lugging it around
- The general quality of installs in venues has gone up
- Sound regs have got tighter, meaning they wouldn't be able to run the full 96k rig flat out very often anyway

Exciting answer!

I always got the impression that it was simply because they were so disorganised. That summer slam night they did at the o2 a while back just seemed like a total farce.

I remember seeing it at global gathering in about 2004 and there was an environment protection person on the stage stopping them turning it up, aside from the odd couple of seconds when it sounded monstrous. How pointless.

Remember what i think was the full rig at the custard factory about 8 years ago, fuckin mad night. Can just recall finding this particular spot and me and my mate struggling to breathe due to the bass. Was very weighty indeed.

Yeah in the pool? Saw it there about 2007/2008 too. Fucking loved the custard factory.

I think you're mistaken my friend. They never took Valve to Global Gathering.

Those fairly regular nights at the Brunel rooms were something special. I've never heard a better soundsystem/venue combo.

They took it to Gatecrasher Soundsystem in 2002 and played it at bathroom radio volume. Awful day out.

Yeah thats it mate, they had the entire factory open, that drained pool was mental!

Remember the main room having the rig from one end of the back wall to the other. One of the best venues ever.

I went to this. Council dickheads with decibel meters on stage all night kicking off any time they tried turning it up. Dillinja was ready to fight somebody.

Yeah it really was (is?) fucking wicked that place. Being able to smoke in the pool was such a bonus.

Remember an event there around that time called Drop Beats Not Bombs where they locked off the entire road, drum and bass in the big warehouse at the back, all types of different music all over the place. Potentially best music night of my life.

Was talking to a friend about this the other day. Saying it's a shame it doesn't happen anymore.

Darkmatter probably nailed it TBH.

Some of my favourite ever nights out. Line ups were usually pretty good for valve.

I was also there .... lol @ when Dillinja downed tools (due to system being turned down, again) ... and some random firing up the decks, only to turn round and see Dilly flying towards him ... I think that was possibly the biggest 'shove' I have ever witnessed, lad went flying

I thought that night at the custard factory was 06. It was simply ridiculous. That narrow entrance into the main area acted like a wind tunnel from the bass. I think it was towards the rear left-hand side where it felt like your heart was going to explode. Absolutely unforgettable and never repeated. People who left early could hear it from miles in residential streets.

Im pretty sure they did quite a few valves there. I cant remember the exact date of the one im thinking of but it was around the end of 07. Full custard factory, a bit outside aswell, somethings telling me it might have been a shogun audio night with other promoters like hospitality, i cant really remember that much tho. It was seriously epic though! About 5 or 6 thousand people there.

The one you went to was different. Shogun Hospitality etc. August 06 was Breakthru. I went to more than one there. It might've been with someone off here as well. Pretty disappointed because the system sounded weak. They had technicals all night.
