Tanqueray, anyone?

I dont drink Gin so know nothing about this brand - why does it have some sort of hipster wax seal on the bottle to make it look like its special and independent even though it is owned by Diageo?

It's the more upmarket end of recognisable brands of gin you might find in pubs. No one's saying it's craft gin.

Diageo also make Haig, Talisker and Ciroc don't they?

I would think so they own many many brands. If it works for you and others then fair enough the taste is most important, but to a non Gin drinker I just found the fake wax stamp thing a little funny

I think Tanqueray bottles have historically always had some sort of 'T' wax seal thing on them.

Out of interest where are you guys buying your gins from? Assume Internet, so any recommendations for good sites other than the usual Master of Malt, Gin Festival etc.

Amazon is surprisingly good. Often cheaper than anywhere else.

Been hitting some strange Menorcan gin this week. Not at all bad, especially for 11 euros a bottle

That's the one. Was expecting some sort of rancid moonshine. Can you get it outside of Spain?

Just spent the afternoon learning about the history of Gin, how it's made, and made my own bottle. Basically I'm an expert now.

Until Gutless Gin is readily available, I am trying this:

So far so good. It's slightly citrusy and very smooth and creamy in the foretaste, almost vodka-like.

6 O'clock Gin on offer in Waitrose currently. I advise you all to bag with extreme prejudice.

You confused me there with your photo of of that blue one and description of 6 o clock gin. What's Snakey's review of the blue one?

I'm a complete gin noob, but picked up a bottle of the Lidl own Hortus gin. As a classic gin with tonic and lemon, it's fucking lush. You lot rating this, or am I a heathen for even suggesting it?

Can one of you Gin-Pseuds recommend a straight forward gin to stick some sloes in?

No need for added fancy botanicals, fire ants, psychedelic invertebrates or whatever

I dunno if it's that particular Gin, but one of the Aldi or Lidl Gins won an award. If you like it, drink it.

I struggle with the Tonic in Lidl, I find it really dulls down the Gin and tastes more like lemonade.

I quite like Brokers as a straightforward gin. Plus the bottle wears a little bowler hat.

I'm not a gin-pro by any means but the mrs bought some of this and added some lemon tonic and it tastes just like those rhubarb and custard sweets. Not a subtle flavour but really nice anyway. Not even sure it's a proper gin? I dunno, whatever. Tastes fresh.

It's tasty which is all I need to know.

Although it has peaked my interest in gin.

What's a good 'proper' gin for me to get started on? I want something smooth.

Yeah that's the one, just googled it, it's won some awards and stuff.  It's tasty.  Mixing it with fever tree tonic though, not really about the lidl tonic, it just comes in a big bottle which I don't like.

They do 6-pack individual glass tonic bottles too. Assume it's the same stuff though
