    Looking forward to it.

I'm from Edinburgh, have passed a few scenes being filmed, and from what i've seen/heard they've picked some great locations.

One of those films that really didn't need a remake/sequel but the trailers certainly worthy of a rare visit to the cinema

It was ok.  Too many flashbacks and nods to the original imo.  Plot was pretty weak.

That's the exact impression I get from the trailer tbh.

i enjoyed it more than i thought i would tbh. the pacing is very odd... it's very light on plot for more than an hour, then tries to cram loads in, and then all of a sudden it's just over

i thought miller and bremner were brilliant. mcgregor not so much. caryle ain't actually in it that much tbh. the new girl is pretty good, without having too much to work with

a few brilliant scenes - the 1890 club for example - but quite a few shit bits

some nice nostalgia in the shots and framing, but the updated choose life speech should've been cut.

i liked the way they had Spud write Trainspotting, but most people i've spoken to thought it was cheesy

overall, nae bad, likesay... but nowhere near as good as it could've been had they adapted Porno properly. i'm definitely going to try and read the book again soon if i get the chance.

I thought Porno was being made into a film in it's own right?

Just found out I missed a T2 90's rave with Goldie in Berlin as part of the Berlin film festival

Yeah, agree with pretty much all of this.

I always figured trainspotting etc were at least semi-biographical. Does that mean Welsh was most like Spud?

well, the project started 10 years ago as a straight adaptation of Porno... but hodge really struggled to get a decent script together. too long, over-budget, little resemblance to the original, etc

so it got stripped back and stripped back, until what's left only really takes its broad context from the book (renton coming back from Dam, and sick boy the pimp and begbie the escaped con out for revenge). the film's title says Adapted from Trainspotting and Porno which i guess is true. it also fills in a couple of small gaps from Skag Boys.

i'm not sure welsh has ever talked about his own experiences, but i think it's fairly implicit that he was in and around the scene for a while when he was young? i'd be interested to try and find some old interviews actually.

I'm sure I read that they filmed so much stuff that half of it didn't make the cut. I'd be interested to see what sort of stuff that was

i seriously doubt that's true. the budget was only about £14million, and most of that went on the actors and the music rights.

    What scene? The heroin scene?

Most of his books are clearly drawn from his own experiences. I've read a few interviews as such.

yeah, that's what i meant. i just wasn't sure how involved he personally was in skag... in relation to simon's question about whether spud is based on him

I always sensed he saw the most of himself in Renton.
