think it was 'wandering' and 'something jazzy' where I thought the bass could be worked on - and it's a subjective thing not objective really, I always feel a bit silly giving actual feedback on tunes for this reason

feedback much appreciated man, really, all helps the learning process. thanks for taking the time to listen!

there is defo some sub in wandering, might not be prominent enough perhaps.

in jazzy the bass just comes from the kick drum

So I took the plunge and bought Maschine Studio a couple of weeks ago. I was pretty worried at paying such a large sum of money when I've failed so miserably in all past attempts. I don't regret it at all though because it's perfect for me. I've already made far better stuff than I had in around 10 years of occasionally opening DAWs/staring at DAWs/getting distracted/browsing the internet/having a wank. That's not really saying much though because it's still mostly shit and I'm having loads of trouble building on an idea.

This is the first time I've actually enjoyed it though and I actually feel like I'm learning something.

I just watched a few of those Fact 'Against the Clock' videos and it's pretty depressing how quickly they can come up with something better in 10 minutes than I will probably ever make in my life. Oh well, onwards and upwards.

COOL STORY BRO.

Post up favourite "tune in a day" / "tune in ten minutes" / masterclass videos. These are good:

I'm gonna go charity shop with a blindfold right now :)

Also this one, mostly for J's dancing at the end:

This thread was enjoyable to go back through. Law's tunes are annoyingly strong.

A sneak peak at a new track from myself and Wheeler. A bit of a epic totes emosh steppah.
DJ Stunna playing it on his show as the first track: https://soundcloud.com/stunna/stunna-greenroom-with-goreteks-guestmix-jan182017

Coming on Transmute recordings.

I also just finished my first solo tune on Ableton, first tune I've done on my own in years. A complete Tom & Jerry rip off lol. Will try and get a clip up.

This is how old I am — making slow, moeshy stuff that likely nobody even has a name for (except maybe IKOS, hehe):

I like it Stamina, but I can also imagine some quite annoying 15 year old white grime "MC" over it all. Getting all emotes because he doesnt get enough pocket money, and it's hard in the surrey hood.

I'm happy to report that not only can I not envisage such a performance, it's definitely not going to fucking happen.
No idea what "new age" music might be either, thinking about it.

That should be on a programme for global warming. Montages of rivers drying up, polar bears plodding down muddy paths in St Helens, Geordies having to wear coats etc.

Wow...some great tunes on this thread - I thought the production sub-forum looked a bit quiet....
I haven't written any solo stuff in the last 6 months of 2016, but did this acid-jazz inspired thingy around new-year:

The first hint of proper dnb bass starts at 1.30. No idea where to send this track, as it's probably a bit too cheesy for most tastes. Not even sure it's any good!

I dabble in production. Since starting a new job a few months ago with a longer commute, I just feel that there's not enough hours in the day for me to get any better at it.

Had a real lack in feedback aswell I never really push it and nobody I know knows that i'm into it.

My feedback is likely perhaps the same as ever other choon of yours I've opined on: it's simply too polite. Letting a couple of 'related tracks' play after yours confirmed that for me — it's a bit bass-light and more modest in overall level too. This coming from a guy that doesn't make 'club music' in the slightest, either... Everything there is nice, but the absence of anything remotely ballsy in the track is ultimately its undoing IMO. Dirtier, chunkier beats would be a start, and some actual low frequencies when the bass guitar comes in would be cool too. As is, the detuned bass you've gone for on the drop seems quite out of place, perhaps because of how organic and pleasant everything else is. The high string you start the tune with could sit lower and further back in the mix, and a more generous helping of effects to add some stereo excitement would be a treat too — your bassline is perhaps the widest element in this clip, everything else is pretty 'down the middle'...

I'll argue with anyone that says tunes of this nature can't work, however. It's a nice change from the ultra-clean and synthetic stuff so many others seem to offer up, but I reckon it can still sound tighter without having to resort to Desecrated bass and Pendu-snare.

Summary: nice work, as always.

Done this today. Just a 16 bar sketch at the moment, getting the sounds together really before making it into a proper song and that.

my first attempt at an 'edit'

https://soundcloud.com/iamspires/pyt-edit

obvious, and cheesy, but was fun to put together. still lacking stuff to add 'interest' throughout the tunes. mine just tend to plod along, need to get better at finding those little fills/extras etc to keep it all moving a bit

Couple of my new ones, each were being looked at by two big labels but after a few email back and forths etc they decided they weren't quite there which was pretty gutting tbh, so today I'm sending them out & about again. Any pointers welcome. Techy dancefloor business.
