It pleases me a lot to read this. I wholeheartedly agree.

It was called jungle in those days, not drum and bass. That came later

I'm sure you won't be the only black one but I'll probably be the only Turk one.

how was the NI meet guys? anything interesting happening?

will have to try and get to one the next time.

so excited for the Ableton 10 release on Tuesday. so sad that I'm working away for the next 3 weeks and won't be able to play about with it. what with that and being away in japan end of march / start of april it's gonna be ages before I get to start working on some music again ffs

Was really good

Learnt loads of stuff.... they basically sit you down in a classroom and go through stuff... only gripe I had was that some of the workstations were a bit messed up... my first one had no sound coming out and the keyboard wouldn't work properly.. I moved and the next one didn't have all the plug ins installed. Minor though because I was more interested in the instructor explaining things anyway.. he stayed in the room between lessons just going through stuff too

Would def go again.

Who has Ableton 10 then? Anyone else find the CPU usage has shot up a shitload? Seems to be a major problem. Not just Windows either.

I've got it but holding off using it for the time being until they get the first patch out.

Sounds like it's got quite a few issues at the moment.

I've read about people's CPU usage going up as high as 40% under relatively small load. I think a slight increase was to be expected as the graphical improvements and a few other bits require more CPU; but apparently no more than 7%-ish.

I've read some people solving it by turning something (can't remember what) in BIOS and other people changing some settings in Ableton itself. Keep reading about and something will come up.

Did you keep Ableton 9 installed alongside it?

yeah I've kept 9.7 in the background. People with ridiculous performance specs with i7s and 16gb+ of ram are all reporting the same CPU problem. I saw one guy with about 900% CPU usage lol

Annoying

It's a bit amateur of them to release it with something that is causing such high CPU load but I guess it's pretty complex software and there's so much variation in people's studio computers out there.

Hopefully they're working it out and will have it sorted soon.

Feedback? My usual habit of flipping a sample in as many ways as possible within one track - have I over-egged it? I could probably make two or three separate beats, but I think it hangs together...

i like it man. i like the fact it's got some variation. some beats can be too repetitive. this is more like a song in itself though imo - did you intend it as beats for a lyricist?

works as a piece of ambient music by itself. nice vibes.

Hah, no, I never begin a track with a plan, I just see where the samples take me. I’m thinking that maybe the melodic drone parts are too much, removing them altogether and finding some other sounds to go with the percussion. Cheers for listening!

I deleted Live 9 and stuck Live 10 on tonight and it's been smooth as anything. CPU usage is fine. I like the updated GUI - it's subtle but it feels a lot more modern - quite inspiring in a weird way.

I gotta say, that new Wavetable synth in Live 10 is such a great sounding synth.

A new deep house.

I really like this. Can't really find anything to criticise either.

Love that drawn out pad over the top of it all.

Very nice and clean.

Early kick-off so home from the football early. Kate is out all night at her mates so I've hit the fancy Gin b2b weed and going to try and get some music down. Will probably be asleep on the sofa by 5pm.

I think I managed to give this a listen before you took down the link! First impressions were;

- it's a long wait for the flute
- the beat is well mastered, drums really thump, but needs a little variation. When you listen to a lot of hip-hop the beat often cuts out for a hit or two, which is quite a simple way of catching the listeners ear.
- thinking back on your other boombap joints, they would all benefit from some kind of vocal, even just a snippet of a JB grunt or some dude going "Uhh, yeah" etc
