Thanks man - that means a lot, genuinely.

Any suggestions for the beats? Improve on those which are there already there or scrap them and start from scratch?

If it's at all within your capabilities, destroy and rebuild anew. Even though there's a definite nostalgic feel to that bass there certainly isn't much like it around right now, so to handcuff such a stand-out sound/mood to beats that have literally graced tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of tunes is downright criminal. I imagine something punchier, funkier — doesn't need to be ultra-loud 200 Hz pendu-step bznz, merely something that's as much 'yours' as everything else is. Their familiarity is more hindrance than help in this case, to my mind.

Agree with stamina, the tune is basically there, just redo the break & give the drums independence in the mix to add clarity.

Something else I've been working on, completely different to last one.

Fonik if it's your taste / preference to use fairly pure sine subs that's fair enough but it'll be a struggle to hear it on quite a few systems. Have you tried listening on your phone or small earphones to check you're happy?

i produce on my soundmagic e10's  lololol. i know i need to add some movement to the sub but i dont have the plugins or effects to do so sadly, just using the simple akai daw that came bundled with my mpc and its pretty basic :( adding a bit of chorus to it helps a little but then i find it tends to overpower everything else

thinking about upgrading to ableton soon so i have some more powerful tools but tbh im just having fun knocking out these little loops atm. i know they need a lot more refinement/polish though

Ah fair enough mate. Movement would help too yeah and I don't know the akai daw, but the sort of effects I was thinking about are saturation and distortion or adding upper frequency harmonics. You might try adding a copy of the sub an octave up but a lot quieter for example and seeing whether any processing on that helps. Difficult on IEMs as you say!

turns out i just didnt/dont know my software that well as it supports external plugins/vsts ive just discovered. just downloaded a few (inc a nice saturation effect, and a nice eq) so hopefully will help things sound a little better

cheers to those who've offered words of wisdom thus far, much appreciated :)

new bit, with some processing/effects on the bass this time. the bass sounds better for sure, in terms of standing out in the mix anyway, but still do like just that pure soft sub sound, esp. with hip-hop style beats. not sure about the tune in general though...listened to the main loop so much now that i dont even know anymore...

had another thought also, anyone up for a sample swap? not asking for anyones top secret super samples but anything that people have got that they fancied uploading i reckon would be cool to get some new sounds etc...

will get the ball rolling:

in here are 3 folders:

'orchestral samples' - got this from a university music department website at some point. loads and loads of professionally recorded single note samples from pretty much every orchestral instrument you can think of (no percussion though sadly)

'pure sub tuned scale' - exactly what it says. fat sub bass notes in a variety of frequencies

'reinforced sample cd' - defo of interest to a few on here i reckon. cant even remember where i got this now but i know it has a kind of mystic legend surrounding it and it's not readily available anymore, so here ya go :)
