Gives me goosebumps because it's so sick. Can't wait to see the whole film again too.

went last night. fucking amazing. there were still some nostalgic nods and geeky references, but the whole thing felt so much fresher than The Force Awakens

really liked the cast. no particular big names or showy performances, just all really decent character actors. shame they're all dead!

and yeah, that final scene with vader was the nuts

Yep... just saw this this with daughter... she's been a SW fan since I first indoctrinated her in the ways of the force when she was 3 odd.... and I saw the first one in the cinema aged 8, hooked ever since.

Both well impressed, best out of all 8 movies, even better than Empire? Time will tell.

I can see why the makers wanted this to have no scroll at the start, a different theme and all... but this out and out a SW movie, no question.. Tarkin and Leia were well done although not perfect - and I liked the main droid character, although some didn't - he had a droll/sarcastic edge which fit perfectly. The last 30 mins were excellent, and the finale left a lump in my throat. Will see again.

If I wasn't in Dad mode I'd have cried too

Lucas did the right thing selling to Disney it would seem.

I honestly thought Disney would destroy it but it is the best thing that has happened to the franchise really... Take back everything I said

This was a Lucasfilm production through and through, Disney only held the distribution rights and final cut. This movie was only decent BECAUSE they were distanced from it.

Vader at the end gave me goosebumps. Fucking amazing.

It was like those rebels were thrown into a cage of raptors. Brutal, dangerous and ultra violent. So so good.

I'm struggling to think of a better scene in movie history tbh. For a Star Wars fan it was as good as it gets. I'd love Gareth Edwards to direct a stand alone Vader movie.

Oh i get it now. As much as I like goodfellas it's never going to be in the same league as Star Wars for me, not even close. Joe Pesci or Darth Vader, I mean come on mate, seriously.

Carrie Fisher had a massive heart attack on a plane and had to be wheeled straight off to hospital when it landed apparently.

I thought the Force Awakens was better. I wasn't that impressed tbh. Looking forward to the next one and to transporting 2. Can't wait for that.

Greatest scene in movie history is a bit much imo. I could probably name 100 scenes that provided more potent feels. As a Star Wars scene it was certainly brilliant, but without the brilliance of the original films, it would not have had that impact. Some scenes I'd personally rank higher than the end of Rogue 1 off the top of my head:

"I am your father"
Tears in the rain
HAL shutdown in 2001
Balrog in LOTR
Toys hallucination in Akira
Punching the walls in Raging Bull
Bathtub scene in The Shining
Final Russian roulette scene in Deer Hunter
End of The Wicker Man
The end of Don't Look Now
Alien chestburst
...and so on..

I can't argue with that, but i rate Star Wars films a lot higher than nearly every other film.  Maybe i should have said the best this century. And also the last great thing i saw or played often tends to be my favourite until the dust settles. It was undeniably great though!

Tried not to read anything about it since people were moaning and questioning what it was going to be like after the first trailer release

But yeah what a film

Highlight Vader slaughtering rebels at the end lol.

It does beg the question of why didn't he just do the same at the beginning of a new hope instead of the stormtroopers 😁

Haha I thought the exact same - if he can brush aside laser bolts with his lightsaber, why bother with the stormtroopers at all... then when he realises that the escape pod is bound for Tatooine, why not go and fetch the plans himself, with so much at stake? Maybe he likes setting up his minions to fail cos he enjoys doing that 'force strangle' thing on them, he does do it across iv, v and vi quite a bit.

Balrog in LOTR

Saw that on a massive screen (pre-trendy-3D days) and it was amazing, the whole Moria section in fact, the bit on the collapsing walkways gave me vertigo. Definitely up there.

Liked Star Wars as a kid, loved the spaceships, no interest now for some unknown reason.

Here's the thing... (don't you hate sentences that start with...)

SW works on different levels, at least the original trilogy did, like all good movies imo.

Kids love the space stuff, good v evil, princesses getting rescued and so on.

For everyone else that loves the movies - to me it's all about the best bits of buddhism, wrapped in a space-opera that people can relate to.

Look at 'Empire' in particular... 'do or do not, there is no try', 'never his mind on where he was' etc... all about living for the moment, focus, self-belief. Also the 'force' as a metaphor for chi/'life energy' - if channelled properly, the belief that we can achieve great things if we put our minds to it.

I recommend you smoke some decent green, watch 'Empire' again and bear in mind what I've said here, and see how you get on.
