Should do a Jabba movie without CGI.

i haven't seen Solo, but i get the sense that mid-way through production they realised that donald glover is the fucking man and then sort of rewrote the film around him. the guy who plays han just seems so bland

Nah. He's not in it loads, but when he is, he pretty much perfect for the role.
Matey that plays Han is much better than expected, doesn't feel like a Harrison Ford impression but he does a good job of making the character his own.

I'd put this on a par with Rogue One and better than TLJ, from the new films.

Loved it, so so much better than The Last Jedi.

That cameo at the end was such a tease though, he should have been in it more, I had a proper fanboy nerdgasm.

The picture quality was so bad it was hard to see much though, looking forward to seeing it again at home. I hope there is a Solo 2.

Thought it was pretty average tbh. Has it’s moments, but overall it’s a meh from me.

Also having that character appear at the end was just silly.

Paul Bettany plays a good villain though.

There were some proper gasps at the cameo. Got to be setting something up for a future movie.

Emilia Clarke to be the first female sith in the Obi Wan movie, as you know who's apprentice

Yeah sorry I was jist being facetious. It looks like the Clone Wars is still canon though thankfully, so Ventress is legit.

Agreed. If the whole fanbase was told that something was canon then why change that? It's not like KOTOR affected the story of the films or even any future films anyway. Fair enough if it's some shitty fan fiction that nobody cared about, but if it's a revered part of the canon then I see no reason to ignore it.

Saw it yesterday at the Odeon in Brighton - thought the movie was pretty good, cameo took me completely by surprise, my daughter had read about it beforehand so was calmer about it...

Totally agree with the above, everything looked really dark, like looking through those 3d shades, thought it may have been the odd murky planetary sky but it ended up being every scene, and got on my tits in the end.

Maybe we (collectively) are used to brightly lit HD TVs and our eyes may see cinema screens darker in comparison, I bet(hope) the blu-ray looks better... but it's not a great look after making the effort to travel/pay to see it.

This set up blatantly for a Solo 2, unless the box-office for this one is really shit...

Cinema screens are just too low res and too dark, they are so behind the times compared to high end tvs, but even so if they just turned the brightness up more for 3d movies it would help a bit. I said this a while ago and some dickheads like sprout e said I was talking shit, probably because they have Blaupunkt tvs they got in a black friday ruckus.

SPOILERS BELOW.....

I wouldn't be surprised if the narrative carries on in the Obi Wan movie with Qi'Ra working for Darth Maul, id love to see a Vader v Maul fight, seeing as Maul seems to have broken away from the Empire and become a criminal, you could have Maul v Vader or both of them vs Obi Wan, either way it would be sick. It was annoying it ended just before he was about to meet Jabba, I was sure he was going to be in it.

Re: Star Wars 2018/10/18 05:16:10 (permalink)
Finally got round to seeing this last night.  Can't sleep so may as well post lol

Thought it was great.  Some of the set pieces were a bit silly, and the guy playing Han, whilst enough of a different character in his own right to not make it seem like a shit young Harrison Ford, was a bit overly cocky at some pretty dangerous situations lol.  But he did the job well and carried the film nicely.

The villain guy that they are 'working for' also was a bit of a wet flannel.  Needed a better bad guy for sure.

Donald Glover is just a G in everything he does, needed more of him really.  Although *spoilers if anyone still hasn't seen it yet* , his grieving over his dead robot seemed a little bit, ahem, weird ha.

Was a great fun watch though, without any real stupid bits, and cool looking SW universe stuff around, so it definitely exceeded my expecations, which were pretty fucking low I must say.

Only thing is, I agree with people saying it wasn't shot well and a lot of it was very dark.  Bought the 4k version and it really doesn't look great aside from a few bright outdoor scenes.

R2 got blown to fuck in episode IV then rebuilt all nice and shiny and new 5 minutes later.

C3P0 got blown to fuck in episode V, Chewie put him back together 5 minutes later.

Why didn’t Lando just rebuild his irritating sexbot?

You've only seen 3 movies in 13 years, are you sure you just don't like Star Wars lol. Last Jedi killed a lot of people's enthusiasm but hopefully 9 gets things back on track. Surely they have to cancel Rian Johnson's trilogy?

Because they didn't have the technology to do that back then before Han had done the Kessel run in 12 par secs... Technological advances to rebuild droids in 5 minutes came after that. Everybody knows that

it's more the endless cycle of one planned every year from now until 2030, or whenever it is. seems like they're just making more for the sake of it. rian johnson's new trilogy's still on. so is the game of thrones guys' one. plus this new tv series. plus other supplementary 'story' films.

They aren't doing so many spin offs now as Solo flopped, they've cancelled plans for Boba Fett and Obi Wan movies apparently. I'm sure Johnson's trilogy will be cancelled soon.
