People don't know any better I guess. Those Crosley decks look terrible too. I guess it's a first step before investing in a serious turntable.

Would be surprised to see them hideously overpriced, but I guess it's coming. I wonder how many of the current vinyl trendies will go as far as buying them, though?

Subsurface
Big news. I thought they'd be gone forever. Brushed aluminium too. Win

finally!

does look pretty badass have to say!

plus x2 pitch button - win!

With the new SL-1200G, Panasonic and Technics developed a direct-drive motor that’s lacking the iron core often blamed for those speed fluctuations in the platter. Any remaining vibrations from the turntable’s electric motor are further suppressed and corrected using new processor-controlled rotational positioning sensors inside the SL-1200G’s housing.

sounds tempting!

I'd love a pair but being realistic I'm not spending £1500+ on anything to do with D&B lol

You could have them sitting somewhere looking swish, think of them as expensive art instead!

I'd be too scared to use them. Technics are made to be abused and battered by DJs, not sit as expensive ornaments.
I still want them though.

If you look at the price of the other stuff Technics have bought out, even 2k might be too low! Especially for the magnesium ones. The standard ones should be a little more affordable, I really hope so anyway.

Still want to have a go on the Pioneer decks.

Watched a couple of videos on them, and one guy slated their internal build quality. Dunno if that really matters though...

Has anyone used those PLX-1000s? Never got to use a pair myself so quite interested if they really do stand up to the Technics.

My 1210s are getting pretty old and battered now so looking into getting a new pair eventually, depending on the price of the new Technics I may be interested.

Bloke I spoke to at www.decks.co.uk said they were not as good as 1210's, not the greatest sales pitch but that told me!

Other companies came with more torque or accuracy but nothing comes close to technics.

Accept no imitation.

Incidentally what's the going rate for a pair of ungigged 1210s lol :D

lol really. In the next 12 months I think I want to invest in a brand new pair of turntables and these were high up on the list.

The real draw back is the vibration dampening. Technics have that super thick rubber bottom to soak up all the vibrations. The Pioneers are plastic bottomed and only have a small rubber dampener inside the chassis. The low frequency hum you get from bass vibration was pretty bad on the Pioneers.
That is going to be terrible if you have them installed in a club with a loud soundsystem but it won't be too bad if you're using them at home.

I have to disagree with Jazzy Jeff much as I respect him. The Pioneer decks are utter wank, rebadged OEM turntables that will pack up within 5 years. Check out the tear down video on YouTube you would be a fool to buy them when you can get Reloop or Stanton for much cheaper. He's comparing cheap Chinese junk to a thoroughbred machine. Pioneer stopped giving a shot about quality 15 years ago, they don't give a monkeys about DJs it's all about money.

I think he might well be right, from what I've read those Pioneers are a bit ropey on perceived long term build quality. A quick google seems to throw up Jazzy Jeff endorsing Pioneer products in the past as well, so might be in his interest to be saying that...

Spend the extra 10k and get some nice new Technics IMO, no other option m8.

Why listen to either of us if you can find out for yourself! If you do some research on it you'll discover the same information I did, it's just a Hanpin deck with fancy presentation, zero R&D went into it. Can get a Reloop with the same internals for half the price.

If you can't stretch to Techs I would recommend these. Still Hanpin decks but 130 cheaper per turntable for the same internals.

https://www.decks.co.uk/p...on/st-150#.Vo0T8OzfWnM

Even these I would resent spending 400 a deck on though, can get a nice pair of second hand 1210s for that money!

Re: New Technics 1200! 2016/01/06 13:41:56 (permalink)
That really is the bottom line. A decent set of secondhand Technics will be a much cheaper option than any of the others - and lets face it, it's the best one too.

I posted that Jazzy Jeff thing simply because it was an interesting response from somebody who I would've assumed would've been ALL OVER a new 1200. But then if he's in cahoots with Pioneer that explains it, which is a bit of shame from somebody like him to be honest.

SIGS, EVERYTHING SIGS.

You'd really struggle to find a nice pair of 2nd hand 1210s for 400 quid these days. Seen them for double that!

And +1 on the Stantons, they are tanks. My STR8-80s are fine almost 15 years later, but sooner or later I want Technics.

Re: New Technics 1200! 2016/01/06 14:06:09 (permalink)
pioneers did feel a bit cheaper when i used them in a radio studio a few months ago. i liked the +16 pitch option (who wouldn't)
not a big difference to the technics imo (could not test the humming though). but given quality and tech info above i'm pretty sure that they won't last as long as the orignial
