Biggar is easily the most pathetic man in world rugby. Over ruling your captain is saux classy Dan. Also i think those calling for AWJ to captain the Lions need to think again.

Props to Italy for mixing it up, didn't think EJ was very gracious afterwards with his comments about it not being rugby.

When they finally sussed it out i thought they played some great stuff in the second half.

I also think its a joke to say any other NH team would have reacted quicker to the situation.

Interesting tactics from Italy, it's only gonna work the once now all teams will coach against it.  I've seen it used in Super-rugby once or twice but not at every single breakdown.

Technically in that non-ruck tackle situation the SH could just sit there and refuse to play the ball for 40 minutes.  No ruck form means no use-it-or-lose it and the Italian players couldn't get closer than 1m to the SH.

Couldn't the attacking team just go round the back and take the ball off the scrum half? If no ruck is called, they wouldn't be offside?
It was an interesting first half to watch, Haskell asking the ref what he should do was jokes. "I'm just the ref, I'm not your coach". If they'd used it more sparingly, or held that tactic off until the 2nd half it could have been a different story.

Wales were fucking dreadful in the 2nd half against Scotland. On paper we have a lot of great players, they just can't seem to get it together and actually play 2 halves of rugby. Scotland are turning into a great team and thoroughly deserved to win.

Tipuric looks a better prospect for the Lions 7 shirt everytime i watch him play. Absolute class act in attack and defence.

I missed the England Italy game but have seen the subsequent interviews and comments. Can someone explain in layman's terms what they actually did?

Nah, not allowed to tackle scrum half in that situation.  If no ruck is formed the offside line is a 1m circle around the tackle zone.

Something which seems to have been missing from most of the post match discussion is how England ran in 6 tries in the second half. It wasn't the utter demolition some were expecting but they still soundly beat them and got the bonus point which is the crucial thing.

Itoje looks to be settling down at 6 now, wonder what will happen when Robshaw's back from injury.

The Chiefs pioneered that no ruck tactic a couple of seasons ago. Was effective for them.

Surely a well coordinated pick and drive game would counteract this as the attacking team would make at least half a yard each go

Yup, it's just strange it took them until a half-time bollocking from Sir Eddie to work this out.

yeah Hartley, or someone on the field, should have had a good enough grasp of the rules to adjust on the fly. Once the plan was rumbled your forwards were just smashing through them throughout the 2nd half. Haskell asking "so if I pull someone into contact it becomes a ruck?" was ridiculous, Hartley looking at him like "no you bellend" was excellent.

Wow, if we could guarantee playing like that we could give NZ a run for their money.

Ireland are gonna come out firing next week, they won't forget they've stopped 18 match winning streaks very recently.

Still, if we play like that and not like the first few games it's likely b2b grand slams. Can we knight Australians?

And so we come to the battle royale.

Ireland looked pretty toothless in Cardiff when Wales stopped their power runners on the gainline. If our lumps can do the same (huge if) i reckon we'll do the business.

(another huge) IF, we can gain breakdown parity i expect us to have too much for them in our backline which has been streets ahead of everyone else in the tournament.

Feeling sick already, watching on the same sofa as my fiercely patriotic Irish wife will be utterly disgusting as it is every year.

Billy V to start please.

If they drop Heaslip and start with a backrow of

6. O'Mahony
7. SOB
8. Stander

We could be fucked.

Lot of talk in NZ about a possible All Blacks/England showdown in November if they're willing to share the Twickenham gate money. http://www.stuff.co.nz/sp...-for-november-showdown

Would love to see it happen. Going into work on the back of England bodying the ABs would be a joyous occasion. Can't think of a time when it was more likely either.

I'd love to hear the reasoning behind this position.

Which areas of English weakness do you feel will cost them the game?

Indeed. In a game which Murray was absolutely imperious.

I really do think we will have too much firepower in the backs for them.

Here's some superb analysis of Ireland's lineout woes against Wales which we will no doubt seek to exploit.

I think Ireland went into the Wales game thinking they could boss the lineout and got taught a lesson - they'll be more prepared for the havoc Itoje can cause and will be training with that in mind. Trying that decoy play with SoB so early on shows they were too cocky.

If they get it wrong again though, Itoje will dead them neatly.

the 6' 10" one has been dropped to the bench on the back of that lineout performance.

Peter O'Mahony is one of their best players and a brilliant lineout forward. it's odd he's on the bench imo as he's a fucking savage barbarian turning the ball over aswell.

they have stuck with the ginormous lumps at 6 - 8 though, POM is not quite so formidable with ball in hand. This presumably is to try and contain / counter our mutant beasts like Billy V and The Hask. Let's see how it goes for them.
