Agree on Wales, think we have a slightly more than slim chance- home advantage and strength in depth gonna make a big difference.

Why the Olympic Park?

You are correct that our bench is one of the best in the world though and half the time we look better when they come on than with the starters.

It makes a massive difference to have that strength in a world cup campaign with potentially 7 big games in 7 weeks.

Going to see Wales v Fiji. I am excited, not by that but just the tournament in general. Are all the matches on normal tv?

I'm at that one too.

Then New Zealand vs Georgia, and then Samoa Japan. What a weekend it will be!

Turns out the screens aren't up next Friday after all.

Suggestions for Ruggah pubs in central to watch it?

I'm only a part time eggah but I find the selection process pretty mystifying.

Two key players in Hartley and Tuilagi miss out for misdemeanours? Where is Burrell? Cipriani? Even Delon Armitage?

Just seems backwards not to pick your best players regardless.

Delon Armitage won't be selected untill he moves back to UK - they've made that policy clear and he obviously doesn't give a fuck.

Hartley keeps headbutting guys but i agree he is by far and away our best hooker and i genuinely worry for our lineout without him. Youngs is a liability.

Burrell has been very hot and cold and misses out on the basis of just not being good enough - fair enough imo.

Tuilangi has been injured for so long that no-one really knows what his form is.

Cipriani should be in the squad in the place of Goode imo, who i really do not rate. He could not have done more in the chances he was given and has been treated like shit by the RFU ever since he rubbed Johnson up the wrong way.

opinions on what the starting England midfield will actually end up being? Barritt and Joseph?

100% Barritt and Joseph, Burgess as impact sub.

Slade, unfortunately for him, will only get a look in against Uruguay discounting injuries...

Cannot wait. I'm gonna be turning up to work still half cut or hungover a few times once the knockout stages start.

I'm struggling to make predictions tbh, I think it's going to be one of the most competitive tournaments yet. All Blacks to win it, but pretty much any of the top 6 teams could take one of the others out on their day.

Lancaster has been a great find for England, but not taking Cipriani is crazy. I think he's probably better than Ford and definitely better than Farrell.

Also interested to see how Burgess goes against someone like Nonu, De Allende or Kuridrani. I've got a feeling he might get shown up, although if anybody runs straight at him they will get put down nicely. Burrell is pretty shit so tbh it's not that big of a risk having Burgess there instead.

Yeah, I'm a bit surprised Burgess got the nod, he hasn't exactly looked the part since making the switch to Union. Guess after they paid that much for his service they were almost obliged to pick him.

Quietly confident about our chances. If we play our best rugby I don’t think anyone will be able to touch us, but hey… World Cups are always a different proposition, as we've so brutally been reminded in previous tournaments.

Ireland are the dark horse for mine, and Wales to a lesser extent.

England at home always a scary proposition, but I just don't think your boys have the firepower in this squad. Tuilagi is a hugely under-rated loss, such a weapon, and he always carved us up. No Cipriani, no Hartley, hmmmm.

Bring on next weekend!

Re: Rugby World Cup 2015 2015/09/12 07:53:44 (permalink)
To be fair, was just looking at the team that beasted your lot 3 years ago and apart from Tuiliagi and Corbs who are both out through injury it's very similar with some good additions.  Joseph played outside Barritt for the last 20mins of that game, no Hartley at all...

England: Goode; Ashton, Tuilagi, Barritt, Brown; Farrell, B Youngs; Corbisiero, T Youngs, Cole, Launchbury, Parling, Wood, Robshaw, Morgan.
Replacements: Joseph for Tuilagi (66), Burns for Farrell (64), Care for B Youngs (68), Vunipola for Corbisiero (66), Paice for T Youngs (72), Wilson for Cole (72), Lawes for Launchbury (66), Haskell for Morgan (57).
Sin Bin: Vunipola (74).

Well, Tuilagi was the chief destroyer in that one. The glaring X factor.

Also, it was three years ago and we've beaten you five straight since. Not sure you can read much into that.

Not particularly optimistic about Wales' chance now after that fucking italy warm up. You never know though.

Can't see anyone except NZ winning it really.

Agree with Grade re: Burgess, he's going to get shown up against any experienced back line, although fuck being on the receiving end of one of his lumbering stand-up "tackles"

Got semi final tickets, so....
Wales been unlucky with injuries. Hoping home advantage will count for a lot, plus, completely opposite to us in all other sports, we tend to turn up for the RWC
