If it was just a couple of racists getting locked up I wouldn't mind but this is now being used to silence debate and stop people talking about the issues we face by instilling a culture of fear. How can we progress if virtually every meaningful topic is deemed taboo and potentially 'hate'

Also, there's nothing hateful about impersonating the accent so that wouldn't really get you in trouble anyway. There's much less of a grey area when it comes to hate speech as it's grounded in clear legislation supported by decades of case law.

This is the problem... people don't actually know the scale of the problem... Hate speech is not just what a protected 'minority' might potentially take offence to, it's also anyone witnessing it. It's totally subjective and it's got to the point where teenagers are getting locked up for posting rap lyrics on line and people are getting arrested for jokes... This is practically burning books territory

Wrong again. Those people aren't being convicted for hate speech.

Probably not. I assumed you would have known or why even mention that she reported it? Morons contact the emergency services for non-events all the time.

She's clearly mental but you're being disingenuous if you're claiming this isn't a symptom of a wider issue. Society is growing ever more censorious and people are becoming ever more divided. These hate speech laws aren't helping, in fact they're doing more harm than good

Yeah, people reporting things to the police and not being investigated or arrested because they haven't done anything wrong. Call the publishers before it's too late. I have a feeling it's the basis for a modern dystopian nightmare story for the ages. A real classic piece of literature just waiting to be written.

Surely everyone can agree that this is fucking obscene

Daddy’s company too.

The social contract in this country is on its arse. Economist friend of mine talks about how the world wars brought the gap in wealth between rich and poor down to its ever lowest level, but since then it’s gradually been widening again and the 2008 global recession saw a massive transfer of wealth upwards.

No money for public services, but this woman can afford to pay herself quarter of a billion quid for one years works. Hmmm.

How populist are you?

https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2018/nov/21/how-populist-are-you-quiz

Suspected fake news as I ended up as a dead centrist (right in the middle, one square up) most aligned to Emmanuel Macron.

Not even a right wing firebrand.

Closest to Obama apparently. A little further west/north.

These quizzes annoy me with questions like "People I disagree with politically aren't evil. Agree/disagree".

Well I do think they're despicable but I don't really believe in "evil". What's the correct way to answer that?

Well, just a few of them, the total bastard ones. Either way, I definitely don't think any of them are evil, so should I "strongly disagree" ? That seems to imply that maybe I think their views are equally valid. I definitely don't think that.

Know what you're saying, but I don't think people I disagree with are despicable at all, so the questions still revealed something :)

Strongly disagreed. I’d hoped to be somewhere near Ghengis Khan, but was pegged as a bland centrist.

UK pledges 50 million pounds to end FGM in Africa. A noble ambition but perhaps we should be stopping FGM in our own country first, where a new case is discovered every 100 minutes?

I dont take offence to it, it just seems totally mad to want to increasingly hand over the power we hold as citizens to the globalists who clearly dont care a jot about anything than keeping power by what ever means necessary and hoarding all the wealth we create

Don’t you suck Trump’s cock though? A globalist pretending he’s a nationalist to get the Charlotstville types on board.

About hoarding the wealth, you sound like an envious community socialist bro. Politics of envy, stop it!!!
