An alleged 30 year old refugee been going to secondary school :

One of Merkel’s “children”. We mustn’t do dental checks, it’s inhumane! Never mind putting some 30 year old Afghan with a load of kids.

Why is someone who came from Germany even entitled to claim asylum in this country?

I know asylum seekers are supposed to claim asylum in the first country they set foot in, but if that was strictly upheld we would get zero asylum seekers and Italy and Greece would have them all.

By Asylum seekers I assume you mean sub saharan africans? Don't get me wrong I'm sure life could well be hell there but we can't solve the problem by flouting international law and taking the whole world in.

And no one voted for it. In fact it consistently polls as a key concern yet politicians consistently fail to address the issue. Maybe this climate of political correctness actually suits them pretty well?

This Grenfell bonfire - admittedly sick but are we arresting people for sick jokes now?

It was a tasteless, sick joke made on private land - if you want to start prosecuting those then we’ll all be getting locked up soon.

More police bowing to social media lynch mobs.

Might have known you'd be in here defending that fuckery. Over 72 people literally burnt to death and you think that's fair game for lols? Shame on you.

I'd ask if your reaction would be the same if it was a group of muslims being equally vile about the Manchester bombings, but we already know the answer to that, dont we?

Not keeping it too private though, video ended up on social media.

If that was an effigy of a football stadium with 96 people burnt on a bonfire, would that be defendable?

I have to agree with SW14. It's not about defending it, other than to say it shouldn't be illegal. Should all offensive jokes be illegal or is it this specific event? Is there a time limit after which jokes about an event become acceptable? Who gets to decide which jokes are acceptable and when? What if a jew tells a joke about the holocaust?

Is it not boarding on a hate crime though because people it was representing burning of black people and Muslims. I don’t it should be allowed. Same as the orange day parade on 12th July. It’s sick and has no place in modern society.

No they shouldn't.

Should you have been arrested when you said you'd put an erection the size of the eiffel tower in a child's anus? No, I don't think you should, despite that obviously being a deeply offensive concept.

afaik they handed themselves in to the police and have been arrested, but no charges have been made. If it's found that they are guilty of hate crimes then I would expect that they would be punsihed within the law.

I just find it amazing that anyone right-minded can look at that and seem more angry about "social media lynch mobs" than a group of horrible cunts laughing about people burning to death.

what annoys me about it the most is we'll probably do more to make an example of the people who've done this than we have to hunt down, arrest and hold accountable those responsible for the cost/corner-cutting that led to the installation of the sub-standard insulation that caused so many people to die in the first place.

nobody is outraged at the government's attempt at covering up the circumstances that have led to 70+ people dying in a fire but everyone is absolutely mortified by some people making a bad taste bonfire parody of it.

Tbh people should be able to say what they want, even if it is sick. If you believe censorship is the way forward then lead by example and shut up, you'll soon realise why it isn't.

Agreed. I thought that was hilarious - largely because it was so offensive - but we aren't the arbiters of humour or acceptability. There will be a lot of people out there who would find your words offensive and want you censored. Humour is subjective - who gets to decide where the line is?

The whole concept of burning effigies could easily be considered offensive. Should we prosecute those who burn Guy Falkes effigies? Why not? Which effigies are permitted?

This is the biggest point out of all of it.

Theresa May tweeting her 'disgust'.  TBH I'm more disgusted by the fact it was allowed to happen in the first place and also that the majority of Grenfell families are still yet to be rehomed.

Also not even remotely surprising it appears the father concerned is an active Tory (SNCC=South Norwood Conservative Club):

the shit thing is that it's taken something this awful to get grenfell back in the news. and that they'll end up with more of a punishment than all those culpable for the disaster.

but as ever "social media lynch mobs" are the real problem
