Anyone been following this story of the Saudi dissident who went to the Turkish embassy in Ankara for marriage papers?

The Turks reckon a hit squad was flown over on a private jet, hacked him up with a saw in the embassy (after sending all Turkish staff home) and then flew the remains back to Riyadh via Dubai.

Insanity.

Yeah, the silence from the "west" is deafening. You've now got the Saudis, the russians, Trump et all being given the green light to do what the hell they want. No repercussions. Either that or the world has realised the UK has zero clout in this modern world.

The most egregious in recent times was the Turkish purge of civic society under Obama.

I don’t think Trump’s rhetoric helps but tyrannical autocratic regimes don’t need much encouragement to do this as the Saudis have done before in copycat fashion.

It does, once again, raise the question of why we throw our hats in with these filth. That could apply to Turkey and Saudi equally. With friends like those...

It would be nice if at least one journalist would question May on the ongoing relationship with the Saudi's, given the shit Corbyn gets for his history of friends.

that video of TM dancing onto the stage makes me die a bit more every time I see it.

you just know she had some cunt in her earpiece going 'no, keep dancing, keep going' because she fucking stops every 2 seconds and then forces a bit more out.

'KEEP DANCING PEOPLE WILL THINK YOU'RE NORMAL'

ughhhhhhhhhh

also massively ironically:

Make no mistake. This song is about the dancing queen, but it is most definitely not sung by her. Herein lies the tragedy. Our narrator has realized that she is no longer the Dancing Queen. She is no longer young, no longer sweet, no longer 17. Now, instead, she watches from the bar; the dancefloor a maelstrom of lost faith, memories, and missed opportunities. She was once 17, and as such was totally oblivious that the moment would ever end.

"Dancing Queen" is a song about this end. Or at least, edging ever closer towards it. It is a song that respects the truth that the passing of time only moves in one direction. That the second after the greatest moment of your life, it is as far behind you as it will be forever. Fuck your inner child, fuck 'you're only as young as the woman you feel'. You are young once, it happens, and then the rest is a slow slide towards something both inevitable and unknown.

and the fact that the guy from Abba thinks Brexit is a fucking joke and doesn't condone their music being used for anything political.

Amazing. Armando Iannucci would struggle to come up with that, next level irony at play there.

Hi Geordie, I was actually thinking of the Bulgarian journalist when I was talking about the "everywhere".

I was reading something the other day where a leading journo was saying that the environment for journalists is the worst it has been in 30 years

I’d say this thread does a fairly good job of covering any unfortunate journalist murders. The fact that one is missed isn’t indicative of any agenda, the recent Maltese one was covered extensively.

You’re more than welcome to post about it yourself. The fact is the Saudi one is a much bigger story because of the potential geopolitical fallout, state assassination element and private jets with murder hit squads and diplomatic immunity.

oh yeah i get that but seeing as its not the first journalist investigating corruption of eu funds i wouldve thought you would have been all over it.

it was on saturday so not exactly old news

lets face it there have been voices about corruption and misappropriation of eu money for years and as one of the many reasons for people wanting out of the eu and it not being challenged have been swept under the carpet by everyone.

but apparently its not main news apart from radio 4 on monday morning.

Exclusive: Months after Scotland Yard received ‘substantial’ evidence of potential criminality by pro-Leave groups, nothing has happened. Is the police probe destined for the political long-grass?
...
Following inquiries by openDemocracy, the Met revealed it has yet to start any formal investigation, and has remained effectively stalled for months in “assessing evidence”. Pushed on why there has been no progress, or no formal case logged, a Scotland Yard spokesman admitted there were issues and “political sensitivities” that had to be taken into account. The Yard spokesman later added that the political issues related to “any allegation or referral relating to an election, and much else besides.”
...
A senior Home Office source, close to the Home Secretary Sajid Javid, told openDemocracy: “No one should really be surprised that the Met have said there are political issues involved here. Of course there are. The Electoral Commission has done a thorough job. Fines have been made for the mistakes made. But we move on. We will soon know the shape of Brexit and maybe there are other issues that deserve our national attention more.”

https://www.opendemocracy...gations-claiming-polit

The Canadians and the Mueller investigation are all investigating electoral corruption leading into the Brexit vote but we aren't.

Not sure how I feel about that. Should the army really care about who or what a squaddie supports?

Educate me people. Goodone, the floor is yours.
