That is what Shiverman and the rest of those on the regressive left are constantly defending.

Fucking lol at resident openly anti-multiculturalist Tory calling the left regressive.

Some cultures are simply better than others. Cultural imports like FGM, acid attacks, industrial gang child grooming and other such third world shitshows are not positive additions to this country and have been allowed to thrive simply because "well, that's their culture". I truly couldn't give a shit about such backwards culture, it's illegal and not wanted here in any way. If they don't like it, then they can go elsewhere.

Multiculturalism has failed.

That's such a piss easy Daily Express argument to pull apart, but I simply can't be bothered to engage with you because you are too arrogant to debate properly.

Careful there though mate, you genuinely sound like a fascist.

Still smirking at you calling those of us arguing against you regressive. That really is wonderful.

Nope, neither of those are hideous statements. Are you seriously telling me that (for example) cultures that stone people to death for adultery and chop off people's arms for theft are on a par with liberal Western democracies?

Do you think the culture of say Canada is on a par with Afghanistan?

If so, you are more of a cretin than previously thought.

The notion that multiculturalism has been discredited is pretty widely accepted beyond the DNBA leftie circle-jerk that is the politics thread.

No doubt this div thinks that Angela Merkel "multiculturalism has failed, utterly failed" and Trevor Phillips have a hideous take too.

Integration and assimilation is surely preferable to parallel societies and the misguided tolerance of backwards cultural traits that multiculturalism is responsible for.

Well that is obvious but how do you achieve assimilation and integration? It definitely doesn't mean ignoring difference or cultural heritage. It means embracing parts of that into our collective cultural fabric. Else you do end up with the schisms and parallel societies you claim to want to avoid.

Obviously we have to set certain expectations and principles, i.e.abide by the law, but beyond that, live and let live.

I see it in NL which to my eyes is much more geared around assimilation than the UK and less tolerance of cultural difference, and just less tolerant in general. But I would say it has had the opposite effect to the UK. Large communities of Turks and morroccans here are not integrated at all. They are living in a parallel society. They aren't welcomed as part of the country and generally aren't represented in the media and public life.

So I don't agree with your analysis of the issue based on my experience

Any thoughts on Emma Dent Coad referring to a black Tory candidate as a "token ghetto boy"?

There's a very strange patronising strain of thought in parts of the left that they "own" ethnic minorities and anyone who doesn't follow their dogma is some kind of treacherous Uncle Tom rather than a human being with the agency and ability to think for themselves.

A lot of "journeys" going on in the Labour backbenches at the moment, while they've just selected an "allahu Akhbar" posting holocaust denier as their Bradford candidate.

The kinder, gentler politics.

And no, I'm not saying it's milk and honey across the aisle either.

No.

Ms Dent Coad, who became the first Labour MP for Kensington at the snap general election in June, said: “Who can say where this man will ever fit in, however hard he tries?

“One day he is the 'token ghetto boy' standing behind D Cameron, the next 'looking interested' beside G Osborne. Ever felt used?

“Two things are certain. One is that his current posse of public school buddies will drop him like a hot potato if he doesn't get elected.

“The other is that he will no longer be welcome in North Ken if he does.

“Nostalgie de la boue. No going back now.”

Pretty unpleasant really. Racially loaded at best, explicitly racist at worst.

Doesn't read good does it. Not to excuse it at all but just for context it was in 2010 before she was in parliament right?

Re: General Election 2015 2017/11/13 20:45:40 (permalink)
No, she was a Labour councillor at the time.

It's not so much the comments that grate even though they are highly unpleasant and tie into the whole "Uncle Tom" complex parts of the left have about any ethnic minority who doesn't subscribe to their views. It's the holier than thou shit you get from Corbyn and co on race and social issues, a bit like Major and his back to basics stuff in the early-90's.

In the last fortnight alone Corbyn has:

- Personally spoken at Islamist openly al-Queda sympathising group MEND despite prior uproar.

- Hired a campaign manager (Marsha-Jane Thompson) previously convicted of electoral fraud.

- Selected an extremely dodgy candidate who has posted "allahu Akhbar", denied the holocaust and claimed 7/7 was an inside government job.

- Promoted someone he knew had been accused of sexual abuse.

- Failed to suspend Richard Marshall, a Labour councillor mate of Tom Watson accused of sexual harrassment texts.

He's lucky the spotlight is on the flailing and useless May government because he is also having an absolute stinker.

Are you taking your manufactured hysteria straight from Guido now? The quotation marks are because he called himself that and she actually criticised his use of the word ghetto to describe the area he was from.

Please show me where he refers to himself as a "token ghetto boy"?

Saying estates in the area "could become ghettoes" is clearly not the same as referring to himself as a "token ghetto boy". It's a bit like the Momentum activist saying that Chuka Umunna wasn't "politically black". The hard left have a nasty tendency to pigeon hole and Uncle Tom anyone from an ethnic minority who doesn't subscribe to their views.

Plantation politics.

The quotes she used, as far as I can see, were about him being hated in the area.

I note you don't deny any other of Saint Jez's recent antics.

Well, that's pretty stupid. Most immigrant cultures as a generalisation are far more conservative than our own. The Conservatives should be a natural fit for large sections of the BAME community.

No ideology or political dogma owns a race and it is absurd to have white Momentum activists telling the likes of Chuka Umunna that his politics "aren't black enough".
