Got it for around £200, measured my case before ordering and it looks like it'll fit with a cm or two spare, if not I can remove a drive bay.

When i was building mine i honestly thought my 290 was too long for the case, i was distraught. I managed to get it in eventually and broke a bit off the cable connector in the process. I thought my case was huge before. 1 millimetre longer and it wouldn't have fit.

Cool story bro, i must tell it again sometime.

Gaming cards mate. You need at least 3 Titans and a double Xeon workstation to do big boy rendering

You can remove the HD cage in the middle to give you extra space - here's an image with one removed

Depends on the case init.  I have a Gigabyte G1 OC 970 in an NZXT H440 which I had to take the drive bays out for.  Nobody uses stacks of drive bays any more, so long cards are all good.

The mans sticking 30 plus hours in on a school week. I'd say he's mutated not just turned. As predicted by myself the loser cant get enough of high end gaming. Gaming chair incoming. Hope its not that monstrosity of a thing he posted the other day though, hideous looking thing.

Anyway; you can't say that Samsung are Meh, because of an issue they had, and then fixed with their SSDs.  What makes you say that Intel are the best SSD?  Is this from first hand experience of torture testing all of the ones you list, or are you going by some other data (and if so, what data?)

Also, in what way are Crucial better than Samsung?  What are you basing this on?  What makes Intel better 'by a long shot'?

They had the issue the whole shelf life of the drive that overtime bought it down to the speed of a mechanical drive, they then fixed it once it became EOL. I'm also baseing it off I've owned drives from all company's mentioned Samsung, kinsgton, crucial, ocz and Intel. The fact we have 450 machines at work 90% of them with SSD's in. In our Music, Video and 3D department we only use Intel drives.

The fact one of the main builders at OCUK who builds more PC's in a week than we will in a lifetime, says the same. Intel make the best controller and have so much confidence in there hardware there SSD's come with a  5 year warranty. The rest of them come with a 3 year, theres a reason for that.

Intel make drives for professionals, Samsung drives are just consumer drives. Suppose if your just gaming there's not much difference in performance but a drives about more than just read write speeds.

Steering wheel and pedal recommendations?

Fairly cheap preferably, i'd love that sick Ferrari one for £500 but wouldn't use it enough to justify the price. Just one that easily clips onto the desk would be ideal.

I got a Logitech G25 2nd hand off Gumtree couple years ago. Still going strong.

You need to get on Assetto Corsa.

I'm not convinced that's the right racing game for me, is it hard as fuck to control? I prefer something inbetween a sim and arcade i think. Project Cars is the one i've been looking forward to and i want to get the wheel for that. Been playing NFS Shift 2 which i'm enjoying other than the drift stages which are bloody awful.

One game i really want to be made is Top Spin 5, we had some epic games on the last one. If they could make that with smooth animation and graphics like that UFC game it would be sick.

It is as hard/realistic as you want it to be. It's the best racing game I've played easily.

Anyone getting Dying Light, out next week I think. Looks alright.

At its press event today, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 will be a free upgradefor Windows 7 and Windows 8 users during its first year of availability. There was some confusion, however, when Microsoft's Terry Myerson started talking about Windows 10 "as a service." Did that mean that after that first year of free availability, Windows 10 would cost an annual fee? I asked Myerson for clarification after the presentation, and he confirmed that there will be no additional fees attached to Windows 10, whenever you buy it.

Re: PC thread. 2015/03/04 20:55:20 (permalink)
It began as Sweeney lamented that achieving the potential of virtual reality and photorealistic graphics is going to require better GPUs. Huang joined him on stage, joking, "This GDC is about VR ... it needs an amazing GPU. And so the problem that I've got is this: If I launched our next generation GPU two weeks from now, GDC 2015 would be a bust. Now that's a legitimate problem—not just for me, that's a legitimate problem for the world."
Huang then unveiled the Titan X, boasting a 12 GB buffer and "8 billion transistors," and presented the first one off the line to Sweeney. We'll have more as the story develops
