Feels like we lacked that bit of quality where Lingard and Sterling were, they still did ok

Sterling did not do ok, he was piss poor ffs.  Not one goal or assist the whole tournament

Do we really have to applaud mediocrity and refrain from telling it as it is

There was no other player in the squad capable of tearing a defence apart like Sterling can. It's annoying that he doesnt have the edge to make him a class player because he has such devestating movement and pace.

Sterling like Walcott no footballing intelligence can knock the ball past a player then stop and pass the ball sideways or take forever to decide what to do and then it's to late everyone's back in position. Average first touch and poor finishing but he can run really fast you know ! , as long as he has quality players like David Silva & de Bryune etc laying chances on a plate he'll score.

No sorry but fuck Southgate.

Fuck his obsession with Sterling who didn't have any end product the whole tournament.

I don’t feel too heartbroken after that. Ultimately we were outplayed in midfield and that was always our weakest area this tournament. Defence hung on but we didn’t deserve to win on that display.

I do feel that we choked a bit up front. We had moments to get a 2nd but were too hasty or overhit passes.

I’m glad we weren’t knocked out by a controversial decision or penalties though. Can’t really complain with semi finals.

Do you think we looked more likely to score when Sterling or Rashford was on the pitch?

I like Rashford but he is not electric like Sterling can be. Neither of them are ever going to be world class though.

Dele Alli shouldn't have walked back into the team after his performances (RLC did more than enough to dislodge him)

Was a little surprised RLC wasn't bought on for Ali towards the back end of the Colombia game and again tonight either for Lingard or Ali, RLC brings something different to our midfield.

Yeah, he showed a fearlessness that we seemed to lack going forward. Man is fucking strong on the ball.

Kane missed a few chances, Lingard wasn’t great, Henderson played pretty bad, and yet all the negativity is focused on tabloid hate figure Sterling. Hmmm.

The look on Keane's face 😂

Compared to previous WC squads this was the worse by some distance so to get to the semi final stage was a considerable achievement.  The fact is this Croatia team have players dotted around Europe's finest teams; Perisic Inter, Rakatic Barca, Modric Real, Mandzukic Juve, Brozovic Inter etc so its no surprise that in a close game their experience was ultimately the deciding factor.  We can hold our heads up high looking back and coming out as the third place team would definitely be a step in the right direction.

Southgate has done a great job in getting the team playing but I haven't seen much in any game (during or before the WC) to suggest he's a particularly good tactician. Top bloke though and someone you actually like to see succeed.

Agree with this. He seemed to have his first XI and his style of play but nothing much beyond that. Dele Alli shouldn't have walked back into the team after his performances (RLC did more than enough to dislodge him) and probably Sterling should have been benched, although despite his obvious lack of finishing and decision making he is a massive pain in the arse for defenders so I can see why he stayed in the team.

He seems to be a firm believer in 'don't change a winning team' (except to lose against Belgium) which is quite understandable in many ways.

Ironically, while Southgate comes across as a modern football man, he has basically got England where they are through Harry Redknapp/insert football dinosaur here-esque stable first 11, big team spirit, strength at set plays, fairly limited tactics.

Rather than calling people names like a 12 year old why don't you impart some of your wisdom on us.

I called it 2:1 to Croatia before the game even started. What have you contributed to the discussion apart from calling me a mong.....which everyone on here will vouch is far from reality

Let it go....

Shit subs cost us that game. Fatigue played its part too. We really should’ve seen the game out in the first half.

Nobody is to blame. We did okay. Onwards and upwards for England.

This whole World Cup has been brilliant, and we played a major part in it.

Because he's like xx million and cant score or pass to someone to score.

No other reason.

And tbh most of my vitriol goes to Southgate for letting it happen

Is Kane the new Rooney?

Fuck off. He’s been brilliant. He was quiet tonight, maybe should’ve scored. So what. Big up Kane and the golden boot

more than subs. tactics, generally less technical players, no one to feed attackers.
it was literally just pass back to the keeper and hoof. Croatia got on top when they realised if they press in the middle it just goes backwards and hoof, they can get the ball back without even having to tackle.
there wasn't anything there to say we have a bright future. we just got lucky with the draw.

To be honest I'm not sure he could have got much more out of the squad we had available anyway. We played to our strengths which were basically pace in behind and winning/converting set pieces. Kane must have won the most free kicks out of everyone in the tournament.

Definitely something in this. Let's see how the Euros go before deciding if England are on the rise or if this was just a one-off. Let's face it, they might not even qualify.

Probably been said but......

Out to each and everyone of them didn't expect to be out of the group part but we should of been out of sight in first half

Mid field was a threat to England and they exploited it to perfection. Ok, his boot was a bit high in the first, but they ran the England players round in circles at times.

Also, Perisic goal was a blatant high foot / dangerous play. Anywhere outside either box and that would have been given. Funny old game.
