I think Artetas's going to get the arsenal job.

The fans will be all over him if he loses his first few games.

You might be right there. I've not seen any Arsenal fans say they want him. The majority are crying out for someone with a bit of fire / passion. Horribly cliche but someone who fits that Klopp / Simeone / Pep mould. Someone who will tear Ozil a new one if he's just mincing around the pitch.

Arteta isn't very inspiring is he. Unfair on him but that's how English football fans (and players) think.

Apparently he's a very good coach and an intelligent man - He's never managed a game in his life though.

Apparently allegri and enrique both snubbed due to the lack of funds available for transfers. Arteta is probably less likely to kick up a fuss about that as they are taking a chance on him. He is a fans favourite and everyone will get behind him if he gets the job but i can just see it tumbling down after 5-6 games already.

Why wouldn't they go with Viera if they are considering Arteta? He has at least some management under his belt and players aren't gonna fuck with him. I could see Arsenal fans getting behind him despite his inexperience.

I think viera would probably ruffle too many feathers, our board are totally selfish cunts who care about nothing else than making a profit each year.

Wengers not there to take the bullets anymore so they need someone who will be prepared to - and that isn't viera.

That midfield for England looks awful.  Can't wait to see a Henderson and Dier midfield every game, zzzzzz

Shelvey should've been in there, complete spastic but he's a decent player in good form.

Agree. At least he'd do something exciting. Even if it is spitting on some Tunisian and getting sent off 10 mins into the first game.

Loftus-Cheek needs to play IMO.

Vardy - Kane - Sterling
Alli - Loftus-Cheek - Lingard

No chance of that though. He'll definitely play one of Henderson or Dier. Pobably both.

I can sort of forgive Southgate for not having him in the 23, he's a bit of a risk etc
But how the fuck is Jake Livermore ahead of Shelvey?... madness  /

I'd pick Delph over Dier or Henderson, although it's been ages since he played in midfield

Yeah me too, at least Delph can move around a bit and actually pass a ball.

He's played at left back when he's actually ever played though, so god knows how he'd get on.

woeful squad. apart from kane how many of that lot would get anywhere near the starting XI of a top 10 country? probably walker? maybe dele?

keepers, central defence and midfield especially are complete dogshit

i assume they'll line up 4-2-3-1 and play henderson and dier together?

plan a: hoof it up to kane... plan b: hoof it up to vardy... proper brexit stuff!

just lol at welbeck

Looking at that squad, he'll probably carry on playing with a 3 man defence.

He's taking 3 right backs, 3 players that play left back if you include Delph, 4 centre backs, plus Dier ffs

It's just such a boring squad.

Re: RE: FOOTBALL TALK & SPECULATION 2018/05/17 07:58:40 (permalink)
Whilst i agree that this is probably the most uninspiring England squad in my lifetime, i cant really blame Southgate because he's literally skimming the best off a puddle of shit. Who else is there? Ironically we struggled for decent attacking options for years and had loads of options at centre half but now there's very little quality at CM and CB.

People going mad over Shelvey, admittedly he had a very good game against us but he was set up by Benitez with a very specific role to get at a team that plays with a suicidal high line. I'd probably have him over Livermore but Talksport was going off like he was Modric last night.

Re: RE: FOOTBALL TALK & SPECULATION 2018/05/17 09:32:02 (permalink)
I'm enjoy the fury and disbelief from gooners that Wilshere isn't in the squad. Tbf he probably should be in the squad, purely based on how shit everyone else is. But let's be real, he's still massively overrated. He's a trier in a team of pussies so that's why he's loved at Arsenal. He's not actually improved since he was 18.

I never thought i'd ever see an England team with no genuine quality in midfield. We always had at least a couple of world class midfielders at club level. It's quite depressing thinking about the quality we had in the 90s and early 2000s throughout the spine of the team. We often had flaky fullbacks and wingers. But England always had top quality centre-backs, centre-mids and and strikers.
