6 episodes in to Twin Peaks and finding it pretty difficult to follow, I'm guessing it doesn't get any less cryptic and confusing. Is there a definitive ending or are you left with a massive unexplained headfuck?

The first season? It's David Lynch so a lot of it is left to your own interpretation, always helps to listen to some other theories on some YouTube channels too.

Yeah first season. I've tried watching it 3 or 4 times in the past but gave up after a few episodes, going to stick with it this time though.

I'm in the middle of a massive brain fart. Could someone please remind me of the name of that 3 episode documentary about early rave music with Goldie in?

Oh shit. I literally came in this thread to post about the first 3 eps of the new Bojack being amazing but I'm swerving the 4th episode for a while

I will let the Todd episode keep me smiling

Wow, just finished S4 of Bojack. Proper feels this season. It was probably the darkest it's ever been. Such a clever show.

Premiere of The Deuce was a ripper, HBO ting based on pimps and hoes in 1970s New York. The whole feel of the city is stunning, costume and soundtrack outstanding.

James Franco and Maggie Gylenhaal lead. Already seen Maggie's boobs. Even a couple of helmets in the mix so far.

EDIT: Should've checked previous page. But yeah, watch it.

I felt the same when I first watched it.

Started it again from the beginning yesterday and it's like watching a different show. Once you get your head around the general quirks and vibe of the show it becomes far more enjoyable.

There's nothing out there quite like it.

The agony and the ecstasy. I watched part 1 and really enjoyed it.

People whinge about Goldie being a bit dramatic, but I could watch him all day. He's so fucking passionate about it, it's just infectious. It really made me want to go raving immediately watching that.

Thought this looked good. Not feeling the Gyllenhaal in that way like half the male population does though. Her face reminds me of a ventriloquist's dummy

Tin Star on Sky Atlantic is exceptional, Roth is a G.

New show on BBC 1 tonight called Relick looks decent, starring Richard Dormer.

i watched the whole season of ozark, mainly because i couldn't be bothered to try and find something better. only thought the last 2 episodes were much good. agree with daz and i really couldn't give a shit about any of them, especially his annoying daughter. was kind of hoping for an apocalypse in the last episode.

watched the first two new eps of Bojack... heavy stuff. the second episode with the flashbacks to his grandparents was insanely good. they just get the balance so right between the tragedy and the comedy... i.e. his grandmother's singing about despair in the past, while he sword-fences with a crab using a pair of salad tongs in the present

gonna savour it and try to only watch one or two a week i think

Do not savour it. Watch it all of it in one go. Cry a bit at the emotional rollercoaster. Rewatch and catch all the subtle hints. Its too deep to watch a bit, leave it, watch a bit.

It demands to be binged and then revisited.

yeah binge it and then re-watch it straight after - it's really that good.

I know a few people on here don't 'get' Bojack and don't find it funny but you have to accept that is isn't pure comedy. It's pretty much a tragedy under the guise of a cartoon with funny bits in it. It's dark, thoughtful, touching and full of clever references.

Hands down one of the best shows on TV in the last few years.

The last couple of episodes were so dark, twisty, it's impossible to acknowledge everything going on in one visit.

It has flickers of Black Mirror towards the end. I haven't researched it to know who the writers/production staff were to validate that claim.

I did have that feel tho.

just been looking at some of the writers credited on the show and none of them have particularly done anything groundbreaking in the past, very little in fact. Amazing really considering the outrageously high standard of story-telling.

The creator and main writer Raphael Bob-Waksberg is only 33.

Re: The TV series thread 2017/09/11 15:46:17 (permalink)
I read an article about how the sillyness of it masks the exploration of everything related to the human condition.

Bojack is such a cunt. Very selfish to the point of what happens at the end of S03.

This season goes all in. I thought at the beginning of some episodes "why the fuck are they doing a whole episode on this?". None of it makes sense until the end.

Even though you can predict what's going to happen in certain storylines, when it does, it still impacts.

it's an incredible piece of work for sure. definitely not a comedy, although it does have comedic moments. it's just a meditation on selfishness, loneliness, guilt and depression. it can be very hard to take too much in one go imo. i've also never rewatched any of it tbh... maybe after this series is done, i'll start again from the beginning

i think the underwater episode last year was one of the best half hours of TV ever made

It's fucking sublime TV but I also love the blend of comedy and darkness.

Random moments where the lion conductor is bigging up Todd, to the whole governor election storyline had me in stiches but the darkness of the fly rebuilding Bojacks house and the Beatrice storyline is top writing.

Also love the satirical take of Hollywood and men's attitudes to women in the olden days as seen by Bojacks grandad

A workmate wants me to watch R&M and I said I would if he started Bojack.

How does it compare to Rick and Morty?

I started watching Bojack to fill the R & M void and they just don't compare at all. Chalk and cheese.
