EmmDotDizzle The whole impact of GRODT was massive. Won't be another album like that ever.
yeah, agree with this. it was a proper 'event'...at that time, so many sections of the world press (who would never really give hip-hop much attention) were talking about 50 cent the music just doesn't do it for me though. slow, samey beats and garbled gangsta idiocy on the mic. i could get down to it at the time but listening back now i'm cringing. you just can't compare it to the MMLP.

I thought GRODT was utter shite even when it came out. Never understood the hype around it, though I agree it did have a pretty big impact.... for some reason. The way the music industry is these days I think it's a shame Kendrick's album can't get the proper global popularity of Eminem's or 50's albums. I would say that arguably Kendrick's album is of a much higher quality musically, more important politically and overall just better than either MMLP or GRODT. But is it right to say that TV, radio etc etc can't get behind a single album or artist in the way they did for those two albums? I reckon so.

I feel like he's better than I appreciate. Whenever I take the time to really listen to his stuff, it's good, and great for anything high in the charts. But I never find myself really enjoying it or particularly wanting to put it on - don't know why. Not given an album a proper listen yet.

just checked it... eight tracks that were recorded for TPAB, including a couple that have been performed live since on first listen, they're good tracks but obviously pretty rough. a nice companion piece, but nothing that really grabs me or sticks in the memory (even the superb previously-performed stuff lacks a little something on record) now, where's that Wesley's Theory remix with ice cube??

Massive fan of... '09.21.2014' from that newly released stuff. I think there's some really good stuff in there, having listened a couple of times now. I like the rough and ready quality to it. Some nice sloppy beats in there and kind of improvisational style. As a companion piece I think it's excellent.

yeah, track number 5 is probably my favourite too. i like 7 and 6 (the one with cee-lo) a lot too. thing is... kendrick's at such a high level now that eight half-finished throwaways still blow most people's albums out the water compare how easily this slipped out versus the absolute clusterfuck that was the kanye west album

Fucking love this new Untitled stuff. Think I'm enjoying the 'album' more than TPAB to be honest.

TPAB is two years old today... i think it's safe to call it officially a classic now Untrue and Third are the only albums released in the last decade that come anywhere close imo

Very talented but I don't find many of his tunes memorable or catchy enough to really get into him. I play ADHD and King Kunta a lot though.

Flow wise it's meh, compare him to an ATG like Pun and it's not even comparable...

I have no idea who ATG is, and Pun is dead. I meant right now, tbf. Kendrick has a pretty unique flow I reckon, but I can see why people might not like it. He's super lyrical too. I love Pun for instance, but he never really said much of any real substance.... stuckinthemiddleoflittleitaly etc
