Former middleweight boxer and 100m runner up Bravid O'Frandipile shows us the correct form for backwards running. Accompanied by Shaziminje ibakhourias, former wli Romanian darts champion, who is running forwards in this picture.

'Running backwards is the new running forwards. I run up to 50 miles in 5 days backwards and get bigger gains than I would running 100 miles forward.'

Good bit of trolling, that.

Can't put a price on a pair of properly fitted running shoes.

The amount of injuries that having the right shoe prevents is staggering.

Sorry dude, my brain didn't even make the connection between staggering and running, lol.

I'm freezing cold and my temper is shortened. Going for a backwards run to clear my head, BRB.

Re: RE: @ runners 2018/02/04 12:14:47 (permalink)
Went for my first run since last summer, absolutely killed me. Forced myself to do it this morning to try and get myself out of a bit of a depressive slump, I somehow managed to sleep for 15 hours straight Friday night then barely left my bed all day yesterday. Chucked myself in at the deep end and ran a hill that I used to do, it was a bit of a shock to the system to say the least, breathing in the cold air got me the worst. So glad I did it though, I don't think I've ever come back from a run feeling worse mentally than I did before.

Re: RE: @ runners 2018/02/04 15:24:57 (permalink)
12 mile fell race on the Shropshire Long Mynd today. It was fucking freezing.

I was a bit apprehensive after fucking my calf up at the cross-country last weekend, but decided to give it a go. Despite my reservations I went off like a stabbed rat, in pursuit of a big 'pb'..... previous best on this race is 2:23 (if that doesn't sound good for 12 miles, then try doing it up and down fells with no paths, mud and shit everywhere, 4500ft of climb, etc).

Couldn't really run properly in the flatter sections due to my calf, but absolutely hammered the ups and downs, and got a pb of 2:17....

However I'm absolutely fuming after getting lost in the final half mile. Instead of getting my map out and seeing where I was, I took the usual approach of getting in a panic and running increasingly faster in what I thought was the correct direction. Eventually I spotted some runners about a quarter of a mile away, taking the correct course, but unfortunately there was a massive fucking ravine in the way. Ended up costing me about three minutes, and even worse, losing to my mate who I've never beaten, but was on for my first victory over him. I was absolutely disconsolate at the finish line, despite being 6 minutes quicker than last year.

In conclusion, I hate running.

Good for you man - keep it up and you'll be feeling better in no time.

I'm back out on it this week. Working away in London but not starting until 11am most days so going to take my running gear and head out in the morning for 90 minutes. Been a bit lazy in the evenings the last week or so as I've been rebuilding my studio PC and trying to get that set up. Unfortunately it was the perfect excuse to avoid going out in the cold which I'd actually been quite enjoying since Christmas. Oh well, back to it!

Cheers mate!

I've been out 4 times in 5 days and going again tonight. Surprisingly my legs are feeling fine despite running a load of hills, although I can barely walk when getting to the top of some of them though.

people say it's good to rest in between runs but if my legs feel OK then I'll just run consecutive days.

great effort!

Yeah same. From what I gather morning heart rate variability testing is one of the most accurate ways of knowing if your body needs a rest from exercise or not. I bought the monitor months ago but am yet to use it.

Re: RE: @ runners 2018/02/09 19:24:28 (permalink)
I did about 5k just now. I had my earphones yank out about 3 times and my GPS watch died just as I got back in so no tracking. I've had to start wearing gloves too because my fingers have been getting numb quickly recently and I generally dislike gloves as you can't use things without taking them off and putting them back on again, which is a pain while running. One of them times it feels like whatever can go wrong will.
I felt great prior but legs felt well heavy half way around. I felt terrible beforehand yesterday but felt like I could have ran all night. even considered going back out. go figure

Headphones falling out, carrying things in pockets, tracking time/distance - can't be fucked with all that palaver anymore. Gloves are essentially when running in cold weather for me though.

nah I need some dnb if I'm running alone but don't blame you. minimise tech, minimise stress it seems these days. I do like tracking though, it motivates me going for sectors and beating times, not that I'm serious about it. just something to do

I spent 3 months last year working my bollocks off getting 5k in exactly 30min.... then got a bird and got fat. Tried it the other month and it was 45 min FFS.

This recent activity in this thread is hilarious. Gets bumped in January, is dead by February.

I for one will also be running loads in January then almost certainly never again until Jan 2020.

Re: RE: @ runners 2019/01/09 16:01:27 (permalink)
Did 4 races between xmas day and new years day.

Xmas day did the 5km parkrun...  got a pb 18:41
then 3 fell races between boxing day and NYD.

We are bang in the middle of the busiest part of the cross-country season, and i'm knocking out the fell races at a fair rate, so not been any let-up really.

This weekend got the next cross-country league fixture on Saturday (10 tough km), then sunday got a 24 mile fell race from Marsden (just outside Huddeersfield) across Black Hill, Bleaklow, Snake Pass, Kinder Scout, to finish in Edale (start of the Pennine Way). It's a tough race anyway, but the thought of it the day after cross-country is turning my legs to jelly.

Ran a 10k in 51mins on the weekend immediately after cycling 20k.

That's with being a complete prick over Christmas so it does come back.

I was right into running for a few years there but now my knees are shot I feel like I can't do it. The gym is all good but there's no replacement for that cathartic feeling you get from a good run.
Might be time for me to become a road bike wanker.
