I was given a Bowmore Sherry cask matured (9year*) this Christmas and I'd say it's a great compromise drink for people (like me) who are pussies when it comes to smokey, peaty whiskys; it has those interesting complex smoke flavours without being overpowering, and the under-lying sweetness from the Sherry casks balances it all out nicely. A cigar and some chocolate in a glass of whisky.

* talking to the guy in a whisky shop and he said that this glut of single malts being sold under 10 years is due to the insatiable demand. He felt they'd often prefer to wait longer but the money on the market was pushing them to bottle them early - he told me to avoid the Jura range with afteshave names as they have no age mentioned on them and are being bottled at higher strength to hide the lack of maturity.

Any if you lot had wild turkey bourbon? Tried that the other night seems good for a midrange bourbon.

Took a bottle of this to my b'day skiing trip this year. One of the nicest whiskies I've tasted.

Also bagged a bottle of this recently as never tried japanese stuff before. It's ridiculously strong, but ridiculously tasty also:

Finally, recently had a trip up in Scotland. Going round the Cairngorms and asked for a local bottle from a relatively small distillery. The guy suggested this and I can confirm it's very nice.

Yeah nikka from the barrel is nice. Jarring that a lot of Japanese bottles are 50cl though.

I used to have a collection of up to maybe 10 bottles of nice bottles from airports from my European business trips. Not sure what I was planning to do collecting them but over the course of the last 2-3 months, coming back from raves or being shovelled up. I've promptly drank all of them.

Never collect

Got a bottle of this as a leaving present from work. Australian, highly awarded. Looking forward to trying it, haven't drunk any whisky this year really.

Yeah got given a bottle of it for my birthday. Not normally something I would buy but it's a totally different beast to regular Jack.

I'm not a whisky man. Looking to get a couple of bottles as presents this year, but not really looking to spend more than £25 per bottle. Is there anything decent in that price range?

Highland Park 12 is always a good shout around that price.

Glenmorangie, Glenfiddich also decent.
