It would end up like Football, being pretty pointless. The pinnacle of Football is the world cup, not the olympics. The pinnacle of Downhill is the World Champs too

Reason why XC doesn't work as it is

Shame though because Fort William is probably the best track in the world at the moment

wind surfing being replaced with kite surfing is pointless, downhill is not XC, downhill is exactly going down a hill as fast as you can with 5 sec penalty for every foot down in some comps

I know exactly what downhill is you mong, i've been following it for 15 years.

I'm saying it won't work for the same reason the XC doesn't work in the Olympics

I've never heard of time penalties for foot dabs either

down hill is the formula 1 of MTB that uses and pushes frame/forks/etc materials to the next generation

XC is a old man sport like road time trials, downhill is a stoner and youth sport, training involves giving up smoking for 20-30 hours

None of what you've said is true or makes sense (why am I surprised)

XC always makes the moves to the next generation, every major innovation is mountain biking has come from XC first. It's only in recent years that downhill bikes have even started using Carbon, and people thought heavy bikes we're best . My GT Lobo in 1998 was a fucking beast compared to the bikes now

I am a downhill fan and don't like XC but you clearly don't know what you're on about

XC is rubbish, no innovation comes from XC, bike manufactuers are not classed as MTB without a team in the downhill worldcup or another cup

downhill is like the WRC to car companies

first mtb bikes were for downhill and started in the USA,

british downhill tracks are all man made and gay , they all shut when it rains, then the folk who maintain them will drive down in a steam roller to make sure none of the babies fall off when it reopens

they dont all have to be pathetic, all the hills and natural terrain around scotland/wales/england, there should be some that are 98% natural track like

Tracey Mosley springs to mind, she is doing Enduro and XC now, although has just been picked for the DH world champs team. Dan Atherton too

What and where do you ride?

you missed the kite surfing, canoeing is not athletes and many other sports that dont count as for athletes they are just sports in the olympics

XC is shit all round and a old man sport, there is no tech, except for rear shocks with lockout which came from freeriding, lockout seats that came from freeriding

no actual technology is needed for XC, they move to slow to cause damage to frames, carbon has always been around, and only now strong enough to be used in downhill

XC shocks have 2-3" travel, they do not need any more, the frame are weak and light

XC is complete trash to any other MTB, and has no chance of survival when its up against road racing with all the glam of tour de france etc

you can trek across the alps and a few fields on any bike, you cannot go down the alps as fast as you can because the frame will just snap in half

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGoTfx84mQE

downhill are the atheletes, you have to do weights when you 220mm front shocks max out with 24" rims

if your not fit, you will not breath enough and circulate blood to your torso muscles, your torso muscles will have no strength left, your torso will be dead, you will fall off or have to slow right down

doubt if your arms and shoulders can take non punishment of 1 mile non stop steps and keeping a constant speed, you probaly die after 20 press ups

bikes can do alot more then 5 years ago, olympic downhill would need to be nu skool and full of bumps, mounds, jumps and turns

another shit track for bitches and old men

bikes of today can handle the punishment of natural mountain terrain without snapping in half

tracks in cups get rougher and tougher each year to match the build strength, the rougher a track is the more pain the body has and you need 24" rims,

if you buy a frame, the specs and shock travel clearence will be when using 24" rims

if the trail is for cups, rough natural dry mud and boulder and not a lame man made path, 24" will stay true from all the impacts at 30-40 mph and not buckle
