its a waste of electric and 8 fans whinning away gives a numskull when your just feel like watching some shit tv
most hdd need oem driver to work on windows, if you have a ssd plvg it in and say if it works, ssd's are just big memcards
i don't trust ssd still for constant downloading/recording as they have limited read/write cycles and will go tits up before a hdd will in constant use.
My pc is quiet it turns off all but 2 fans when it's in underclocked mode, which it always is as it needs fuck all power to play videos and browse the web. To be fair though my tv is noisier it has it's own cooling fans my old sky box fan & hdd was also noisier.
tv + computer = pisses all over your sky, virgin and shitty freeview.
Number of fixed residential broadband connections in the UK 18.8m (End 2011) Proportion of adults with broadband in the UK (fixed + mobile) 76% (Q1 2012) Proportion of adults with mobile broadband in the UK 13% (Q1 2012)
what was that about most people not having broadband?
do you not think that's because you only need one phone line to one house? Unless you build lots more houses the amount of landlines would not go up massively.
and again ofcom has the answer
quote:
LANDLINE/MOBILE PHONES Number of residential fixed landlines in the UK 23.9m (End 2011) Number of fixed landlines in the UK (including ISDN channels) 33.2m (End 2011) Market shares of fixed line providers in the UK BT 36%
Virgin Media 12%
Others 52%
(End 2011)
considering there are abotu 25 million homes in the uk i'd say pretty much nearly everyone has access to broadband if they want it, but i still don't get your argument a PC is still vastly more powerful than sticking a usb stick in your tv even without a broadband connection.

there was 25m homes back in the 60s, if you dont have a landline or use tmobile you cannot stream lo def movies to your tv, 4g phones max out at 8mbs up/down, 5g will probaly do 32mbs
a pc will only have more storage space which doesnt matter if you can just stream netflx and on demand tv channels
but as i said you don't need broadband to use a htpc, i've used it to rip and store all my dvd's into a library, it holds all my music which i can then stream from anywhere in my house.
ether way, the logik tv will record what you are watching to usb device and allow rewinding/pausing the past 4 hours, if your tv can record stuff on other channels then you only need 160gb max to record your football and a few movies and dont have to get off you ass and piss around waiting for legal issues of live games online to watch them back the same night with freeview
I dont give a fuck about football, tv's will be extinct in 10 years, benq and acer will be first next year with full windows 8 touchscreen all in 1 pc with full tv/monitor
windows 8 might be good in a HTPC/tablet setup but it looks horrific for everything else.
I doubt tv will be dead in ten years, i can't imagine most of the population can be arsed with the whole smart tv stuff in the long term unless its just a big button that says "iplayer here".
But who knows maybe not 10 years time but 20-30 years time most of the population will have decades worth of experience with tablets/computers/whatever.
But unless everyone's IQ also goes up along with their exposure to technology i doubt traditional tv will be dead.
the metropoliton install is not meant for power pc users
it needs a toolbar at the top and a black sci fi skin, this is what your tv will open upto in a few years, with apps for windows 8 on websites, explorer open in full screen mode and a touchscreen keyboard that popups to enter new urls, or just navigate the menu using the tv controller arrows pad
apps for windows just get added to the screen or sub menu, most companies will use linux when distributions have caught up, the microsoft name will not be shown anywhere
all in 1 pc/tv are not htpc`s, they will just look like your normal tv, modern and nu age already look like
a computer that is for entertainment purposes are called HTPC's just because it's slapped in the same box doesn't change the definition..
That's marketing trying to find a way to rehash what's already been done into something that sounds innovative.
Even without the fancy metrosexual stuff windows 8 is going to be a disaster for normal pc's, i don't like having half the functionality taken away then being told it's more advanced, i would much rather have the normal desktop interface even on my tv.
people wont take their 60 inch tv`s off the wall for a big shit box in the corner, they will replace it with a all in 1 pc, and not complain about the 1 inch thickness, when it makes life alot easier and keeps your contemporary room clean and tidy
there is nothing wrong with windows 8, the normal install is just the same crap as windows 7, the tears are retards who dont get the metro install and what it could actually be used for
you will have your netflix and tv channel apps on the main boot menu of next gen tv/pc

taking twice as long to do anything, confusing the fuck out of people and putting fancy transitions and effects above functionality if my experience with this type of interface is anything to go by.
I guess normal people will go for the all in one concept because they don't care as long as they can watch tv on it, but in reality these types of things are always vastly underpowered and basically just scaled up mobile phones which completely misses the point in having a computer powered tv setup.
But for the norms i guess that's ok.
Way of the future imo is to have everything built into the home, i hope i live to see the day where every house has it's own server rack.
how are they under powered, if you can watch streamed movies, and make video calls, and browse the net, which you could use android for in a all in 1 pc/tv now, instead of windows 8
if you use android you will only be able to have nintendo DS type of games, and primitive 3d games, windows 8 will have a little bit more power, and not made for hardcore battlefield console gamers, because consoles will still be made
all the normal common folk like all the transiftions, it entertains them or they will just say using computers is boring and bland
if im going to have a pc attached to my tv (which the all in one essentially is) i want it to handle all my entertainment, that includes mass storage of all of my media, the ability to convert HD videos to various mobile formats, the ability to stream media to other tv's/computers in my home.
Essentially a "hub" for everything entertainment based, gaming is not really an issue as consoles will always be preferred with a tv unless you are just an angry birds casual type.
The all in one thing is even more rubbish when you factor in the fact that if it stores all your media etc like it should what happens when you want/need a new tv? or it runs out of space? I still think having a separate computer/centralised server is much better in the long run and unless the infrastructure of the UK is improved massively and FUP and download caps are abolished streaming will not completely demolish the normal tv land.
This is all speculation though and i look forward to see what happens but i think i'll just stick to a separate HTPC/tv setup as it will be cheaper and more powerful than an all in one ever will be.
i think joomla, drupal, wordpress plus 1000's of others have something to say about that unless you are talking about something different by the same name.

even more irrelevant if not
they have nothing to say, they cant chat ass about a giant of perfection
