I don't know if it's just a case of getting older or what, but I seriously have no clue about music today. There's pockets of stuff I like here and there. But there seems to be so many Genres, and what not about, and most of them just sounds terrible to me.
It's like if I stopped paying attention for a month or so, and there's two new genres about. Genres change styles and sounds so quick. It seems like one big free for all, just a big mess. Like a couple of weeks ago, I downloaded a Hyperdub Rinse show(just to check it out), and my Lord the music was just terrible, just random sounds, that just didn't make any sense to me.
There are good producers and DJ's about , but it just seems like, there isn't any genre that about that's actually worth following. Just a handful of good artist, and the rest is just one big mess of crap.
Excuse the semi-essay, not that anyone would read this anyways.
Not in the sense you make out. Lost because there's just so much amazing music about that it's impossible to keep up. But that's a good thing of course

Absolute bullshit.
Music is absolutely incredible at the moment in so many genres. Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop, House, Techno, the UK scene.
If you can't find anything then you aren't looking. It's not even like you need to fucking look nowadays!
Its so easy to find great music, the only complaint is that there's far more than you can keep up with as Shiverman says. Sounds like you've just lost the will to keep searching and digging to me.
To be fair, there is a lot of utter toilet knocking about but there's also loads of great stuff outside of my usual comfort zone, which is exciting.
My main issue is that the stuff receiving the most attention happens to also be awful the majority of the time.
Good news is, if general trends continue, the back end of this decade will have a lot of tunes that sound like they were made in 1997 = win. (This is slightly tongue in cheek before any cretin tries to correct me).

Actually I do have to look, yes there are some good stuff about, like I said, but when you have to wade through so much crap just to find something decent, it can get a bit too much.

This is how I feel browsing new D&B releases. There's still great tunes coming out but there's also a never ending shit-tsunami of tunes that should never have left the producer's computer. Just because people CAN put everything out there doesn't mean they SHOULD.

Agree with everything here, it's like I don't know where to turn to, seems like everything done changed, and I just don't know where to look. Nowadays, I just end up stumbling into new music I like. I haven't gone out to a night for about a good year, cause I don't know any of these names I see on flyers.
I agree with the listening to pockets of music from different genres but I find it hard to listen to solely one genre or even a mix of just one genre these days....
It isn't a bad thing though really... I just listen to a lot more varied stuff.
I do miss the days when I loved DnB though and could actually listen to a whole set all the way through and enjoy it.
For example, I will occasionally download Alex Nut's show on Rinse, I like some of the stuff he plays, but it's the same every time, the first couple of minutes i'm enjoying, then vibe completely changes, and i'm thinking to myself. What is this stuff.
I will go through periods where download every show I can download, but it's the same with all of them, I like some things, but most of it just leaves me feeling confused, and thinking to myself, people like this. I just wanna be able to just enjoy most what a genre has to offer, not just the bits and pieces, that seems to be the stuff that's not very popular.(if your get what i'm saying)

I only listen to 80's,90's and early 2000 music now-be it DnB,Hardcore,or chart stuff. Aint got a clue about any new music and have no real interest in it. Im old

Went through the exact same...
but went on an exploration of stuff...... still not into 1 genre but I really like listening to all sorts of different random stuff now
Let's face it, when that tune High Contrast did with Tiesto gets as much attention/hype as it got, you know things have changed.
If you stepped away from D&B a couple of years ago and recently came back it would be like going travelling for two years and coming home to find your brother is now called Caroline and quit his/her office job to become the city's highest earning transexual hooker.

THIS.
I also get lost in the waves of turd being shoved in my face by mainstream radio.
TBH I don't know any place I can hear decent dubstep other than a particular DJ that plays on the radio station I DJ on every now and again. I just don't know where to look.
I'm pretty sick of the "minimal" sounds now as, again, it's being rinsed by everyone and it's hard to find the gems in amongst the shit
I guess I'm lazy and want someone to put the good music in my lap for me.
Some of you are talking like you've just discovered music
"i've even started to listen to more than one genre!"
I'm always amazed at some of the people on here. That thread about listening to house music made someone feel like they were cheating on their missus (dnb)...I know it wasn't wholly serious, but some people have that mentality and it really confuses me.

Really? Every time I have a browse around new dance music releases I want to cut my ears off. It's a case of not being sure if I'm getting old or if new music really is that shit. Maybe it's a combination of both.
Where are you finding this huge amount of amazing new music you're talking about?
Personally, I still check for a handful of current artists, but the majority of music I listen to is at least a decade old. I don't really give a shit either. There's an incredible amount of quality old music to be discovered.
I see what you mean about genres, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to pinpoint my taste in music to any particular genres these days. About the best I can do is pick out certain producers, labels and DJs that I like.
That probably isn't a bad thing but it means I have to put more effort into finding music I like where as in the past I was open towards the majority of D&B (and for a while, dubstep) so it was easy to find lots of music.
