I crate dig early blues, Motown and funk Circa blacksploitation.
Anyone else collect anything like that? Techni, what's generally ur remit/buying advice? As I come across albums of artists I've never heard of most of the time but the covers look cool.
Basically, anyone got any cool leads as I need more.
Just received a bit of Curtis mayfield through the door. Had superfly on cd for years but always wanted the vinyl.
Win.
Has anyone any recommendation for 70s coolness. Think earth wind and fire at a roller disco and that's where I'm at with a pimp hat on.

about 18months ago i made a habit of going every weekend and buying a few bits.
i havent recently, but i miss it, i think once i've moved im gonna take it up again.

i look abit for motown/soul, but i already know the more obvious motown, occasionally if i find something new/something i dont kno, i'll probly pick it up. I'd like to buy more soul but have no idea what im looking at there so leave it.

what generally happens is i just end up buying old reggae. I always enjoy listening to it even when its unknown, so i think i'll stick with doing that. I've been threatening to do a reggae mix for ages, but never got round to it.

I crate dig oldschool hardcore and jungle and yeah I know what I'm looking for, I'll find the obscure but worthy bits in a crate full of mixed dance music. I'll also dig through reggae and know what I'm looking for in there. mid 80's digital dancehall to mid 90's ragga dancehall and I know which artists are what.

No I've never recorded one before, I'll upload some that are the kind of thing I'm into later though, mixes rather than clashes, because clashes are fun but sometimes there's so much shouting and things get wheeled up for longer than they actually get played it's not always the best way to hear the actual tunes.

I like to compose as much myself rather than using samples.
But recently I got my hands on a mishmash of around 500
Vinyls through a work mate for free.
Don't know what I'm looking for but listening through, some
very cool sounds and bits worth sampling have been found.
Rhythms, synth sounds, vocals, strings. Whatever.
Don't think, feeeeel.

Sorry I thought you were looking for shamplesh.

Well if you like Curtis, then head straight to Leroy Hutson. He was a major songwriter for him and also made some classic albums himself. Huston I & II are amazing, as is 'Closer To The Source'.

And if Earth Wind & Fire are floating your boat, why not taste the delights of Ramsey Lewis' mid 70s output? he collaborated with Maurice White and some of the other EW&F crew on his albums 'Salongo' and 'Sun Goddess'. 'Salongo' is particularly nice.

And obviously if you aren't in possession of some of Roy The Boy's oeuvre, then you really need to check yourself…

Depends what your collection is like now. If you're starting from the ground up with the kind of sound, you should check out:-

Donald Byrd
Roy Ayers
Gil Scott Heron

Can anyone recommend some Italian bizz.
I know of the gremlins and some of the scores from Argento and Fulci etc.
Would love a gateway in, somehow..

Even though it sounds like the perfect name for a brothel it's actually Skip McDonald and Dough Wimbish's first band.

The words crate digging has always made me think "for the purpose of sampling".
Are you not just talking about "buying music" or "Vinyl Collecting"

If i'm going to be honest i do alot of youtube digging then buy the MP3z to mainly sit there and just go into a folder when i'm lacking that little spark

Generally i prefer to compose myself, i think thats the fun part, for me anyway but i can see why digging could equally be as much fun, and i do enjoy the hunt for great samples some times just finding the right samples to compliment each other can be a massive chore, i'm not very good with putting into word what i need to find but sometime i get lucky and stumble across a couple of good ones that work well,

Oh listening i should read before posting i guess
