If they really wanna do something imaginative they'd remake a shit film and make it good, and not remake good films and make them shit.

Im reserving judgement [for now]. The Tropa de Elite films were good, and its not a straight remake.

Hollywood really are just starting over again aren't they.

There's loads of good ideas still, but noone wants to take any risks.

Gary Oldman's signed up for it, so there's one saving grace there. The fella playing Murphy will have to do a good job to outshine Peter Weller's performance though.

The problem with remakes is that everybody watches them. They are profitable in a climate where originality is far too risky. Remakes and sequels already have an audience. They're a safe bet. I'll no doubt end up watching this.

That sentence alone gives me some hope that this won't just be another tired rehash of an 80s classic. Nothing wrong with a remake if you come at it from a different/original direction.

Will be awful. Robocop original is genuinely untouchable. Trying to make it a more serious flick is laughable. What makes it great is the fact that is balances intelligent satire with OTT action and gore. Also, Clarence is the best movie villain of all time... pretty difficult to top that.

Wouldn't even watch it for a dollar.

But if it's so different... make a new fucking movie. It doesn't need the 'Robocop' tag on it if it's a new premise altogether. Wouldn't take long to develop it enough so people don't say, "this is a rip-off of RoboCop" and instead say, "This has obviously taken some influence from RoboCop". I'd be much happier if people were paying tribute to my favourite films and developing the ideas into new films rather than making something half-new, half-awful reproduction and slapping the same title on it.

The one positive about these bullshit remakes is that whenever sometime makes one of these threads it inspires me to watch the original again...

IT won't be an 18 for a start and have the gore of the original. It will be shit based on these two facts.

they will never get anyone as good as the original boddicker, one of my favourite ever film characters

the original is too good, but if he sticks to his plan of showing robocop being made then it might be an interesting companion piece

could only work if it was an emotional melodrama focusing on the bit in between guys going for a swim and being munched by the shark imo

Exactly that. Will no doubt be dulled down quite a bit compared to the original, probably baring more resemblance to RoboCop 3, or in other words.. shit.

None of that matters if Gary Oldman is in it. In fact... fuck it... every film from now on should just be cameras looking at Gary Oldman for the entire 2 hours from multiple camera angles and it will automatically be good
