ORIGINAL: EscapeGoat I bet the forum could come up with a very good list and it would show just how much things have changed. Does anyone else feel bored enough to actually do this ? I'll start, quote me and add it in: 1992: Metalheads - Terminator / Blame - Music Takes You / Smart E's - Sesame's Treet / SL2 - On A Ragga Tip 1993: Origin Unknown - Valley Of The Shadows / Deep Blue - The Helicopter Tune / Apollo Two Atlantis (I Need You) (LTJ Bukem Remix) / Boogie Times Tribe - The Dark Stranger 1994: Dead Dred - Dred Bass / Renegade - Terrorist / Goldie - Inner City Life / UK Apachi & Shy FX - Original Nuttah / Prizna & Demolition Man - Fire / M-Beat & General Levy - Incredible 1995: Alex Reece – Pulp Fiction / LTJ Bukem - Horizons / Splash - Babylon / Remarc - R.I.P. 1996: Ganja Kru - Super Sharp Shooter / Adam F - Metropolis / DJ Trace - Mutant Revisited / Cybotron - Threshold 1997: Moving Fusion - Turbulence / Roni Size & Reprazent - Brown Paper Bag 1998: Bad Company - The Nine / Ed Rush, Optical, Fierce - Alien Girl Capone - Friday 1999: 2000:DIGITAL - WATERHOUSE DUB 2001: Shy FX & T.Power - Shake Your Body / Shimon & Andy C - Bodyrock 2002: 2003: Pendulum - Vault 2004: High Contrast - Racing Green / D Bridge & Vegas - True Romance 2005: Pendulum - Slam / Sub Focus - X-Ray 2006: ...Jenna G - In Love / Sub-Focus - Swamp Thing 2007: TC - Game Over / Lynx - Disco Dodo / Commix - Be True 2008: Sub Focus - Timewarp / Hazard - Machete ... Noisia - Diplodocus 2009: Fresh - Heavyweight 2010: Break & Die - Slow Down / Loadstar - Link To The Past 2011: Dub Phizix and Skeptical Feat Strategy - Marka 2012: Marka is a bit of a grey are, it got really big at the end of 2011 Digital - Waterhouse Dub is probably the one and only tune that consistently hits the spot for me as an anthem. It's absolutely huge. And it's 12 years old Capone - Friday. A bit overplayed I suppose, but it was absolutely battered for a couple of years after its release and I reckon you'll still hear it occasionally today.

Be good to try and keep the list to two / three tunes per year at the most imo, makes for easier reading in this thread anyway. Agree Messiah has to be in there for 2000

2003 - Ebony Dubs - Rah Got 3 rewinds at one of the accelerated cultures I went to. Every one hammered it. Signal should be in there. Rinsed to fuck. Very gash tune but... Simon Bassline smith - Odyssey

2003 - Rusty Sheriff's Badge was everywhere. And T-10. I'm not suggesting everyone loves them but they were anthems. The list appears to be completely missing LK and Golden Girl. Oh and 2002 - Ska or Freenote, although I can't remember whether Ska was 2001 or whether Freenote was 2003.

I think we were just so spoilt between 92-2001, I would say that in those periods there was literally hundreds of classics in each year, even up till around 2005 there was a good load a year, since then it seems to of followed the house scene a bit by stacking em high. I used to have about 5000 records from this period and I would honestly say there was nothing that was not a classic or just an essential track. Might be controversial but quality control has gone down the toilet, there was a time where every tune released would of been produced in a pro studio, then mastered by 1 of a handfull of engineers on some serious outboard gear and then put to vinyl. Someone will of paid out a good wedge of cash for this so it would have to be good. Now every Tom Dick and Harry has stuck a few free tunes online and called themself a producer/label. Also the whole dubplate culture seems to of died a bit, was a pain in the ass on some tunes as certain labels were ridiculous(Grooverider take note) but it caused a bit of hype around tracks, seems now that the only people playing a lot of the tunes are the producer themself and his mates.

To be honest I don't think Ceejay is far off. Punters used to invest money in buying music so labels invested money in releasing music and you were less likely to invest in a shit product. Don't get me wrong there were shit tunes but someone had to believe in that tune enough to spend a load of cash getting it mastered and pressed up. These days there's a constant barrage of half-cocked ideas and half-finished tunes flying at you from every angle.

2003 has loads of rinsed tunes... Fassyole Nosher rmx Rusty sherrif Odyssey etc... 2008 was the year that 'anthems' (as we used to know them) died. Ceejay hit the nail on the head as to why.

More in the vinyl/dubplate era though. Things were kept locked down/tight for a reason.
