I'm just annoyed that soon there may not be any free sites to share legal files, like demo tracks or mixes, or more importantly pics of my uncle having his way with car exhausts etc.

not really fussed about them wiping out the illegal stuff

The problem is, if these companies which facilitate file sharing but (to at least some degree) have legal intentions, like Yousendit, which has become brilliant for sending your own tracks to people in bulk, are employing people and paying tax then the US is essentially going to destroy massive areas of its own economy.

If they did hit places like Youtube and Google then surely there's going to be an economic hit there?

Unfortunately, I fear that economics isn't so high up on the agenda (although they will use it against Obama in campaigns) of the new wave of Republican bible bashing nutters that seem due to come in; as Obama blatantly isn't getting another term in office. Some of these cunts seem to be desperate for control and there could suspect underlying motives.

To be honest i'm gonna chuck in view and say that trying to get rid of piracy is a good thing but yeah its not gonna do a lot really in the wider picture.
World was definitely better when you had to pay for what you wanted, never know you might be able to make a living out of music again if they quashed piracy.
Shit, what if they shut Cheggit?

An indictment accuses Megaupload.com of costing copyright holders more than US$500 million in lost revenue from pirated films and other content.

their logic is flawed because i wouldn't have bought anything if i couldn't watch it for free
