Cheese, everything cheese. That's a simple reason why I could never go vegan.

Yeah it's mad that I jogged burgers and steak on over night but the thought of a life without a good mature cheddar seems too bleak to manage. A couple of months without any then a good fake will do it hopefully.

Vegan cheese still has a long way to go. Though I did have some mozarella imitation on a pizza recently that was banging. The imitations are getting better and better over time.

Have you got a product name for that pizza please or was it at a restaurant? I'm going to miss pizza a serious amount if i can't find one with a good fake mozzarella.

What cheese do you buy?

most places do a vegan pizza now. I used to take a vegan cheese into pizza express and they'd use that before most the commercial places responded to demand.

The amount of wildlife killed in the mass production of fruit and veg sold at our supermarkets is astronomical, no vegan has the right to preach. Growing our own fruit and veg and living off our own harvest is the closest we'll get to eating ethically but then we have literally every other aspect of our day to day living to consider as well such as the clothes we buy and the jobs we do etc. We as humans have got it so wrong that it is pretty much impossible to live a cruelty free life. It is a major concern of mine, pretty much to the point where I don't feel I deserve to enjoy anything in life. Meh

its easy to be misanthropic about everything not just the whole veganism debate, as if it really is even a debate not just denial. all you can do is your bit for your conscience. I can see why some vegans go around like they have permanent PMT but really its about whether you can live with yourself, then finding others to share that with that have got there themselves, if you are alone in it then of course its bleak.
its pretty hard in western society, have you ever gone/thought of travelling to try and find somewhere where you would see less harm and feel more connected to?

Have you tried this? http://www.mozzarisella.co.uk/

I think Venice Bakery use it on their pizzas https://www.venicebakery.com which in my view are reasonably edible.

I take it you've tried Gary (Sainsbury's own label)? Thats made by Bute Island who make Sheese

Violife is another brand, no idea what it's like though!

Some of Violife's stuff is decent.

The issue I find with vegan cheese is not so much the taste but the ability for it to melt. So if you're making a pizza it can end up looking a bit crap and missing that slimy texture. The cashew ricotta cheese does a really job of this, however.

Also IKOS. If you're in the mood give this a bash https://minimalistbaker.com/marinated-peanut-tempeh-7-ingredients/

My favourite thing at the moment. Get through 1kg of tempeh a week with this marinade. It's so delicious. Only thing I do different is fry it in rape seed oil rather than oven bake. Make sure it marinates for at least 24hr too.

or try out a few non dairy milks and find one you like.
Oatly barista gets raved about, a lot of people like soy milk I found KOKO original and rate it so use that in my tea and everything else.
Mrs drinks quite a bit of the Oatly chocolate milk or the almond dark chocolate one, KOKO do little lunchbox cartons of chocolate milk too.

Have you of all people gone fucking vegan 😂😂😂😂

It is worth checking all of the retailers freefrom ranges as most of them have a chilled offering. Due to the specialist nature of the market, most of the retailers chilled own label freefrom ranges are produced by the brands anyway, but are in store cheaper....don't get me wrong though, some of the retailers chilled freefrom products are pretty rank.

Oatly Barista are having some production issues currently and the amount of stock in the UK is really low at the moment, so it might become hard to find over the next fortnight, should be a temporary thing though.

The Koko Dairy Free stuff is pretty drinkable, Rebel Kitchen's stuff is good ( http://rebel-kitchen.com/products/), also as a non-vegan, I was really impressed with Nush (Cashew Milk Yogurt) when I tried it (http://nushfoods.co.uk/), their sister brand Co-Yo who do Coconut Milk Yogurt (http://coyo.com/gb/) is also more than edible.

Yes mate it's only a matter of time before I make a massive life change. It's ironic that after 16 years of hard graft for no money I have found myself in a very well paid 'dream job' potentially for life and yet I am the most discontented and disconnected I have ever been. Pretty sure I'll end up volunteering somewhere long term but I'm finding it very difficult to make that leap tbh.

Actually, it is possible to eat dairy without harming cattle. I'm not even a veggie anymore, so I have no axe to grind. But just sayin'

When you think that milk is cheaper than water, surely there are enough people prepared to pay a bit more for their Moo juice?

If any of you are seriously considering going veggie or vegan I reckon you'd probably be wise to hold off for another fortnight, in the name of curiosity and science.

Nah it's arthritis due to excess urea in the blood; it crystallises near the joints. It's usually temporary as drugs can sort it, as can a change of lifestyle assuming your kidneys aren't broken

Going vegan for dietary reasons seems pretty much the same as any other fad diet really. I don't doubt that going from 10 pie and chips a day to a finely crafted vegan diet will have health benefits but then so would switching to any balanced diet, most of which would be less hassle than going vegan.
