If you live in London, it's so easy to be Vegan. Go outside London (or a big city) and your options in restaurants are pretty limite, I've found.

Also I gave up trying to be so strict with it when you have to read the small print of the ingredients on a bag of crisps to see if it contains milk powder or not be able to drink a beer because it was filtered using isinglass. That sort of shit can get to fuck.

TBH it's the health benefits that interest me a bit more than the environmental factors. When you look at the rates of obesity, heart disease and diabetes now and the fact that after switching to a plant based diet those problems all but disappear after only a couple of weeks - that's pretty persuasive.

The Simon Amstell mockumentary 'Carnage' delivers the vegan message in a non-smug way.

Yeah that mockumentary was a bit weird, but also reminds you just how conditioned we are to accept the status quo with meat and farming.

Meat is calorie rich, plants are generally speaking, not. I'm sure there is something intrinsically carginogenic about red meat (although if you consume the connective tissue/offal with it, the glycine will neutralise the methionine that is implied in the carcinogenic etiology) but obesity itself is arguably a carcinogenic state as well as an issue for your heart and blood pressure.

I'd hazard a guess that for overweight people the lions share of the immediate benefits of a plant-only diet principally come from the lower calorie, higher fibre diet.

Just read that. Fucking disgusting. And a real eye opener to see M&S chicken in the photos.

I buy my chooks from my butcher, they are certified organic and that's the way it's staying after an article like that

I have been vegan for 3 years now. It's not some magical health cure like all the recent documentaries make out, it is very easy to be an unhealthy vegan.

Can i ask why you lot felt the need to give up eating meat? Just curious. You cant have loved eating steaks etc that much to have decided to give it up. For me it would be a huge issue.

It's easy to give up once you realise there is no need for it at all.

There are vegan replacements for most things these days. I actually enjoy my vegan diet now way more than I did my carnivore diet, but that's just me. Has forced me to learn how to cook properly.

Still getting in 3k-3.5k cals a day for training easily. ~200g protein. Not that anyone cares but there's a common misconception that vegans don't get enough protein.

You get used to it very quickly and learn certain brands to look for/avoid. I heard there's also an app called 'isitvegan' or something which does this for you. Not had to use it myself yet though.

I'm in awe of people like Venus Williams who can maintain such a banging body- at her age- on fucking fruit and veg. How is it possible?

I could never do it. I get so much pleasure from meat based dinners, veg only diet....nah. Can you imagine not being able to eat a delicious slow roasted joint of pork with crackling and some amazing meat juice gravy. I cant fathom it tbh lol.

You guys do realise vegans eat more than fruits and vegetables?

Coming from the cuntchops who had a full on prang attack from a 0.5 over an entire weekend. And had to write 2 full days off work for putting a dollop of chilli sauce in a burger.
