Mann could focus more on the noir story if there's no more sci fi left in the book.

The first film is genius film making, its amazing that a film that old could still look great.

I agree that a sequel shouldn't have too much CGI, I think it's a bit of a cop out and would probably just degenerate it into some charmless action film as is usually the case these days.

I though Terminator Salvation showed that you don't have to only have CGI environments, some impressive sets in that film and certain scenes had a real Blade Runner vibe to them i thought, like the last scene

Will this movie be a prequel or a sequel?
Kosove: We don't know, we just don't know yet. When we know, we'll let you know. We don't know yet it's too early. The only way to answer that is to say that we will have a process where we will hear hear different ideas from writers or from potential directors who we will bring in, in combination with the writers, before determining. We could be open to either a prequel or a sequel.
See, this is what pisses me off about it.  Its like they've just thought "hmmm, lets use Bladerunner to make a load of money", without actually thinking about how they're gonna do it... then they make up a plot in 15 minutes and do loads of CGI and voilah, a load of money b2b ruining a classic.

And how the FUCK can you do a prequel/sequel to Raging Bull?!  Its a fucking life story.

fucks sake ! what is the point ?

wasnt there a similar thing supposed to be happening with Alien aswell ? easily two of my favourite films ever, with absolutely no need for a prequel. cant they just write a fucking book instead. dont they understand that films like this aren't made anymore for a reason.......

And that's an excellent reason why these Bladrunners prequels/sequels should never, ever be allowed to come into fruition.

Despite the producer's on the record pledge a few months ago that the new Blade Runner film would not see the original movie's stars back, Harrison Ford is reportedly being lined up to star in Blade Runner 2.

Twitch claims that Ford, who has made his dislike for the original film known over the years and who clashed with director Ridley Scott making it, "has entered into early talks to join the new Blade Runner. While this is still very early stages and it is quite possible that things won't work out the obvious implication is that what we are looking at is not a reboot but a direct sequel to the original."

You can rest assured this isn't going to happen, thank god - apparently they stopped it because of scripting issues.

It could still well be shit but i'd be more confident with the original cast and director on board, they better get James Edward Olmos on board

Director absolutely, shouldn't be done without him. Not to sure about the cast though, they're all way into their 60s now. Depends on the story of course, but I couldn't buy Ford running round tagging replicants as an old man.

Unlike the Alien prequel though I can't see how this could possibly be any good. The original is perfect as a self contained film. I love Sci Fi and really want more films like Bladerunner, but I'd rather them be completely original instead of trading on existing good will.

I'm not getting my hopes up for either. I'd be very surpirsed if the Alien 'prequel' or Blade Runner 2 were anything more than a bit franchise whoring. They need to make a Culture film

prometheus looks wicked to me. it's not really a proper prequel to alien anymore either, it's a original story "set in the same universe" and actually sounds really good. if it turns out to be as good as it looks, then i'll be much more confident he can pull off a decent blade runner sequel.

But he's not directing Bladerunner 2, so even if Prometheus is great, it's of no bearing on the Bladerunner sequel.

I wish they would release a DVD of Bladerunner without any music. The Vangelis score is wicked, but the film is shot so well that I (and I'm sure others too) would love a go at re-scoring it.
At some point in the film, Peshay's The Nocturnal (Back On The Firm) would be deployed with extreme prejudice.
