Dune is fucking sick. Got some 3 and a half hours directors cut of it on DVD.

Would love to see a reboot... maybe a trilogy or something so they can do it justice

For anyone who sees the Vaporwave thread and passes it over because 'shit ambient music' then now might be a good time to check this 2814 mix out. A promo mix for a limited vinyl run from 2015 it includes some stuff that you might know already but also some pretty big vapor tracks.

If you're on a Bladerunner vibe at the moment then it'll almost 100% go down something splendid.

---2814 : Room 2814---
Side A --- A Doorway
01. 2814 - アルカディア
02. Burial - In McDonalds
03. Eskadet - Asian Dream
04. Darshan Ambient - The Look of Amber

06. Subaeris - あなたの夢を見て
07. Boards of Canada - Seven Forty Seven
08. Hong Kong Express - Return of Dreams
09. Vangelis - Blade Runner Blues

Pisses me off that they got rid of the IMAX in Bristol.

Anyhow, roll on 8pm tomorrow.  Just went and bought the final cut blu ray of the original to watch beforehand, tomorrow will be a good day.

A microbudget horror film, Blumhouse/Universal’s Happy Death Dayis beating the very expensive sci-fi Alcon Entertainment/Sony sequel Blade Runner 2049 in its second weekend respectively $26.2M to $13.8M.

Went to watch it Wednesday night. Sick, everything sick.

Someone mentioned it in the thread and I took his Deckards line that they were all being hunted as he was a replicant as well.

Fucking hell I enjoyed that. Watching the original right before was brilliant as well, that's how to do a modern sequel 30 years later and capture the brilliance of the original and at the same time, put a modern twist on it.

I want to see it again straight away though, at points I was enjoying the sounds and the aesthetics so much that I was missing parts of what was actually going on.

4 separate people got up and left halfway through btw... what the fuck is that about? I was on the aisle seat, felt like tripping the daft cunts up as they went down the stairs.

So glad Ridley Scott wasn't involved in this. His films now are utter tosh and he would've ruined this sequel.

Really enjoyed this. I agree about the dark and rainy backdrop being missed but it is the western coast so it makes sense that it's a desert/sun smog look which I loved. Especially Vegas! Prefer not to have another film though. The "uprising" can only end badly with too much action for this type of film

That threesome with the whore and Joi though!! I can't wait for the future

the more you analyse the film the more little details you notice. Even just little things like the lyrics of the Frank Sinatra song mentioning the name Joe.

It's quarter to three, there's no one in the place except you and me
So, set 'em up, Joe, I got a little story I think you should know
We're drinkin', my friend, to the end of a brief episode
Make it one for my baby and one more for the road

So hyped to see it again on Tuesday

To be honest, there's so much shit that I wanna discuss that it would end up a mess of a post lol.

So I'll leave it for now, but just to be able to talk about some of the specific parts, you mentioning the Sinatra part made me remember the fight between K and Deckard, with the holographic Elvis stuttering on and off, what an incredible visual and audible scene, I've seen some people have a go at this film because of a lack of originality of the new locations (mainly just comments by idiots, saw one guy say it did nothing that mad max, and the hunger games (lol) had done before it), but that scene alone showed the originality of the new types of locations/scenes that they used for this, it was fucking incredible

Dekkard is a replicant.

When Joe (Joe K: Joseph K - Franz Kafka's The Trial?) is questioning Gaf he asks about Dekkard and Gaff says

G: "I knew he wasn't long for this world"

K: "How so?"

G: "Something in his eyes"

That's a direct reference to the Void Kampf test there.

It's definitely a nod towards him being a replicant for sure, it's not definitive proof though is it.

I like the fact that it's still left ambiguous tbh.

Re: Blade Runner 2 2017/10/16 09:34:06 (permalink)
Wallace's suggestion that meeting Rachel was a set-up by Tyrell? Dekkard's face then wasn't red-pill blue-pill confusion, I think he was turning it over in his head as a possibility.

Ultimately Dekkard seems at peace and his own answer to this big question was probably answered in his attitude about the dog "ask him" (loved the bit when poured some on the floor).

Agreed that this new film has opened up a lot of questions that I assume will be answered in the next one. No way it just ends there, and as Law said, although it was a long film, when it did end it felt abrupt, but would another 20 minutes be enough time to tie-up all the loose ends? I want closure damnit.

I'm not sure about a sequel to be honest.  There's material there for it, but what would it be?  A replicant uprising, a war etc?  There's material there for that, but it's all been done before, and I'm not sure how I feel about this becoming a franchise of sorts.

But then it was so good, that if the same people are on board, then I'm sure they'd make a great sequel also.

After a slow start in the first week it had a disastrous second week. A sequel is extremely unlikely.

Looking back I was impressed with how creative they finally were with "future" technology with the AI, drones, etc

Was a bit peeved in the first film how they could have flying cars but shitty little TVs that have MS DOS style interfaces (as seen in the flying cars and Deckhards home)

I guess at the time it's hard to imagine what a future interface would look like, or else it would be halfway towards being designed already.  It is interesting to look back though and see how futuristic it looks, whilst at the same time looking very 80's.

I liked that. Typical that tech isn't always developing in useful ways, but profit driven, and likely that all the best stuff is off-world on the colonies (with the best people - JF Sebastian stuck on shitty, backward earth).

Gosling's repertoire includes a max of three facial expressions. He is not mysterious he's just awkward.

That scene where he raises his glass and says "here's to strangers" to an empty room. He acts like an exhausted Nicolas Cage.

Sylvia Hoeks as the evil robot is basically just an even more deranged and annoying Sophie from Peep Show.

The best bits were a few good set designs and the brass/hologram love scene.

Towards the end Jared Leto tells Harrison Ford something like "you are drunk on the memory of perfection". That is exactly what anyone who rates this boring film is guilty of.

That's just cliches. No actual critique there...?

There's better actors than Gosling, but he's no Nicholas Cage. What about Hoeks reminds you of Sophie lol? You make no mention of the actual plot.

I only had seen the original once around ten years ago so didn't feel like I was just basing my enjoyment on the last one.
