Goblin is a bit hit & miss for me. 2 of the 3 standout tracks (Yonkers and Sandwiches) have both been around ages, although Tron Cat is decent.
i reckon Tyler's going to suffer from all the hype around his album and it's not going to be received as the classic everyone wants it to be. a big commercially released album is a very different thing to a freeby on their Tumblr but it doesn't sound much different.
it's properly frustrating that Earl is/was the best rapper from the whole crew.
agree with you a bit Syhr cant say i like Goblin all that much. i like Tyler but i think i might have expected a bit too much from Goblin, im just gonna put it down to him not being able to jam and write with his brother lol.
in regards to Earl, apparently he has been sent to a Somoa boat camp by his mother because she wants him to finish high school and not be hanging around with all his mates (OFWGKTA) skating and talking about rape. fair enough really lol.
I just got Goblin delivered at work, heard the first 5 tracks or so at lunch, its decent so far. I had to skip the tune with the rnb vocals on the hook, I just cant have it.
My initial thoughts are Goblin is a fair way behind Bastard. Yonkers is the best thing he has done really but on Goblin there are more tunes with crazy instrumentals over powering the rapping, and I think Tyler is a pretty good rapper with a different flow, intelligent lyrics and unique voice.
But delay effects and pitching up your voice on every other track gets a bit tiresome.
Odd Future have announced a three-date UK tour for July.
The Los Angeles rap collective, Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All [OFWGKTA] to give them their full title, recently grabbed all the headlines at the Camden Crawl festival. Now they will play shows in London, Manchester and Birmingham this summer.
The short trek begins at the London Electric Ballroom on July 5 before moving on to the Manchester Academy 2 on July 12. It then wraps up at the Birmingham HMV Library on July 13.
Media put Goblin in my hand today, so I bought it. Listened once, its ok, didnt really know what to expect which I think helps, I have nothing to compare it to.
Earl Sweatshirt, the elusive member of Odd Future, has given his first interview since his whereabouts were made public last month.
The rapper, who real name Thebe Kgositsile, had not been seen with the Los Angeles hip-hop collective for months until he was discovered to be staying at the Coral Reef Academy on the South Pacific island of American Samoa.
Odd Future have encouraged fans to chant "Free Earl" at their live shows and have spoken about the rapper being hidden away by his mother against his will. But Kgositsile says that he is in American Samoa voluntarily.
He told the New Yorker: "Initially I was really pleased that all these people claimed that they wanted me released because I thought that translated into 'They care'."
He continued: "So time progresses and the 'Free Earl' chants get louder but now comes an indirect 'Fuck Earl’s Mom' and in the blink of an eye my worry changes from 'Will there still be this hype when I get back' to 'Oh shit I just inspired a widespread movement of people who are dedicated to the downfall of my mom.'"
The rapper said he did not have a definite date for when he would be back with Odd Future, but added: "You'll hear from me when I'm ready."
