that's the thing, at the start, the sort of stuff in this thread never fitted into a genre. It was all floating around in between dubstep, grime, techno, garage and house but could never really be pinned to any of them.

yeah absolutely. and live sets were really eclectic too, bringing in old classics from the genres alongside new stuff

the coining and subsequent application of the term 'BASS MUSIC' was the death knell

The rehash sounds like someone has taken the original and simply stripped out all the soul ha. Can't imagine it was Chris Lorenzo as I'd have thought he'd do a better job...

I fucking wish there was more music like 2010/11.  Was the last time I got really exited about shit, was listening to Sully- Carrier at the weekend and the world needs more Jungle/Juke/Garage hybridism.

There's still some of it about, but yeah, I agree. 2009-11 so many artists were bringing new and eclectic sounds to the table but it's now faded quite a bit.

The Livity Sound label is still sounding fresh and interesting imo, but I struggle to find much at that bpm to keep me interested. Last week, I scrolled through Redeye for about 10 pages in their bass music section and couldn't find anything that made much of an impression.

This one definitely caught my eye though. Needs to be more stuff like this:

yeah, djrum is one of the only guys keeping it interesting for me

i like the more recent stuff sully's done too... 'Blue' and especially 'Flock'... doesn't quite have that hybrid feel though

Sully has realised that 140 is pretty stale, and has switched completely to jungle.

That kind of behaviour is to be applauded imo.

this is close to being very good, but ends up a bit too broody and doesn't really go anywhere imo

You guys sound like me about 4 years/800 pages ago.
The hybrid stuff had a very short life-cycle and there's always the odd straight dub style 140 thing still coming out, but I'm more than happy with the rebirth of Jungle.

Maybe 140 is too fast now everyone's getting older and they'll slow the next sound down to 100bpm. Would love to hear a serious beats/trip-hop revival.

New Nicolas Jaar is worth a listen. I don't love the style or the singing in a lot of it, but the attention to detail in the production and the arrangement

Benton's BBS Volume One compilation is pretty sweet if you're into the whole 130BPM jungle thing..
