Re: RE: [DISCOGS] The Official Discogs Thread 2016/03/21 11:04:29 (permalink)
i bought it as i liked it and knew it would disappear in a couple of hours, as proved to be the case. However on reflection, i rarely play that real tear out stuff and so it seems a shame that something which is quite limited and highly sought after will be sitting on my shelf collecting dust.

Re. the price - £35 does seem like a lot i agree but imo it is the market value of a Sci Wax release. look at how much the others are going for - £50 in quite a few cases. i have tried to strike a balance between not charging the earth (£50) and not mugging myself off either.

you are setting the price here though as youre selling first

£35 is fair enough if thats the going rate after a few sales but straight from the off? this is why discogs is so fucking ridiculous these days

really dont want to get into some debate here either

fair dos its your record etc and im sure someone will buy it but you could double your money + sell it for £15 and it is much more affordable for someone that does really want it/will play it

is that the same for other sci wax bits?  I have a few older releases including that classic breakage roller; name escapes me.

I'd have thought no one will pay 35 or 50 surely?  Considering what else you could get on discogs for that money.

they will, sadly

the other side of the discogs coin

ludicrous pricing from sellers + idiot buyers that have too much money =  free for all

what came first chicken or the egg as to 'blame'

didnt think you were one of those guys snakey tbh.

i'm not!

i'll happily swap it with you for something, but as it is i also have a vinyl habit to fund and in a world where every single record from 1993 or 1994 cost a minimum of 20quid i'm not sure what other options i have.

swap?

im not even after it particularly, was just making more general points (i mean i would like it as i have loads of sci wax stuff and it's all sick, but i missed them this time round which was annoying but ive accepted it)

havent got anything to swap either, have been through my collection with a fine tooth comb many times over and dont have anything left to get rid of

Re: RE: [DISCOGS] The Official Discogs Thread 2016/03/21 12:13:07 (permalink)
It's just supply and demand at the moment and people are willing to pay the silly prices so they've kept going up. I missed out on a 2xLP by 2814 (some vaporwave thing) - it was £20 from Dream Catalogue and it's not going for over £200 on Discogs. I'm not going to pay that - not a chance, but someone will. Until people stop paying ludicrous amounts for records then the situation won't change. We just have to hope that eventually it becomes too much for everyone and the cycle starts again.

Whilst it's nice to think that Snakey COULD put that record up for £20, double his money and have the feel good factor of knowing he bucked the trend - if people are willing to pay £35 and he needs the money to fund his habit of buying other people's inflated jungle records it'd make no sense for him to sell it for significantly less than the current going rate.

I don't mind getting a promo copy if I know it's going to be a promo - but I do like full release / artwork where possible!
