Domino
Mario Odyssey DLC - Mario 64 levels being amongst it

Yes please, I’d very happily sink another 30 hours into that game. It’s incredible.

Get on Octopath Traveler if you’re into your old school 16-bit RPGs. Proper pixelart graphics, sweeping orchestral score and simple but solid storytelling. Square Enix on top form.

3 hour Demo is free on the Switch e-store and you can continue your save if you get the full game.

Yeah played some of this demo last night, seemed good. The one thing that annoyed me was the stupid olde English style of speaking all the characters seem to spout, in text and audio. I started as the girl character with the tiger though so perhaps other characters are different? Only a minor anyway still enjoyed what I played.

She (and the rest of the people in that town) are the only people that speak like that as far as I know. Definitely annoying but you can always change the voice audio to Japanese.

Loving it even more now I'm about 6 hours in - once the map opens up and you recruit a few new characters and job skills it really kicks in. Been ages since I've really go into a proper turn based JRPG - can see this one getting rinsed for months.

Yeah played a bit more last night, will def pick it up I reckon. Not sure how I feel about the lack of health bars on enemies though. Is there an option to turn that on at all?

Nothing in the options but once you recruit the cleric you can use him to check enemies' HP.

20 hours in now and it keeps getting better. Sick, everything sick.

Depends m8. Definitely an acquired taste. I've played about 70 hours but struggling to play much more. There's very little actual gameplay in the entire game, tbh and its quite a commitment, at least 150 hours I think.

That’s a no then. Looks very cool though, would have definitely bagged and rinsed it 5 years ago.

I’ll wait until it’s a tenner so I don't feel quite as bad when I only play it for a couple of hours.

There's loads of 'activities', hobbies, games etc to improve your character but 90% of them you just press a button to watch a cut scene, if it had lots of stuff to do like in Yakuza it would be a lot better. Most of the game is just clicking through dialogue and menus, including the combat seeing as it's turn based.

Get A Hat In Time instead seeing as you loved Mario Odyssey.

Same. Buzzing it's on PS4. Will have to get on it.

Still haven't got round to getting a Switch yet. What a loser.

Init. I enjoyed the demo but I think I'll wait until its less than 30 before carrying on. A game with those sort of graphics should be 29.99 at launch max.

It is £40 in most places I have looked... £40 is the most I have paid for any game. I have no idea where you lot get them from but between Base, Smyths, the supermarkets and games365... There is no way you should be paying more than £40!?

Ah didn't realise it was available in shops, I was just looking on the switch store.

Still though, £40 is a lot for what looks on the surface to be an above standard indie game.

At least it looks like quite a long game with 8 different stories. Did i hear that the different stories aren't connected? Bit weird if that's that case

still don't agree that indie games (not that Octopath is an indie) can't command a similar price tag to AAA studio games. it's the content that matters and I've played many indie games that have had significantly more content than AAA titles. the graphics have nothing to do with the price - if an indie game has 200 hours of content then there is no reason why it shouldn't command a £30-40 price.

i've played AAA games that have looked great but with shit story, shit content, poor gameplay and 20 hours of content; they've been £50 - why? just because they had a big team and a big studio behind it? should have done a better job of making the game.

if a team of a few people can output something substantial with good content and longevity then they deserve £40 just as much as anyone, imo.

also, people in here that will spend £50 (and the rest) on pureo and beer in a single evening but aren't happy paying roughly the same for a game that potentially will give them nearly 100+ hours of playtime (and can most likely be sold on for half of that if you buy a physical copy). it just seems weird to me.

Of course they do, games with cutting edge graphics have hundreds of people to pay, games like Octopath probably have about 10 people.

When you're a PC gamer very few games are worth 50 quid. If it was on PC it would be £15 within a couple of weeks. The only games i'd pay 50 for are ones i simply have to play on day one like Mario, GTA, Bioshock etc. Even huge games like Yakuza don't cost that much. Nowadays i just wait a month for games to be half price as there's been too many games i've paid 50 for and then barely touched. Currently waiting for Detroit to drop in price even though i really wanna play it.

Been watching speedrunners on Twitch recently (mostly the older Mario games).

Not sure if this has been mentioned (can't be arsed to check) but some of the Super Mario World hacks are insane (designed for extreme difficulty and speedrunning).

Grand Poo World:

This is a TAS (computer generated) but it shows what you need to do to complete the game without dying. There are videos of Grand Poo Bear completing it but you can't hear the music very well and some of it is great (particularly the Super Metroid rendition).

I doubt i'd have the patience for the really extreme levels but i do love the levels in Rayman where you have to keep moving and can't make a single mistake, it's so satisfying when you beat it.

Which indie games have 200 hours of content? Replayability or procedurally generated levels doesn't count, I mean original content.
I don't disagree that you can squeeze more fun or hours of play out on some Indies, I've got a lot more from Spelunky, Don't Starve or No Man's Sky than I have from any CoD or Elder Scrolls or whatever, but that doesn't mean they could or should sell for AAA prices.

Aside from that anyway, Nintendo are fucking jokers when it comes to pricing.

It seems counter productive, there's quite a few games i'd buy if they were cheaper. I'm not paying full price for games i can get or have got on Wii U for a tenner. Donkey Kong costs 4 times as much on Switch.

yeh that Donkey Kong re-release price is pure jokes.

Nintendo tho i do love their games are utter jokers with many things that the likes of Sony and Microsoft would get crucified for.

When Sony did remasters for the PS4 of previous older games like Last Of Us for instance they never had them at full price. Nintendo do or as you mention with Donkey Kong charge even much more for it. Is crazy.

Nintendo being trampy is not new though. They have always been like that with pricing games. Even back in the SNES days.

Find it utterly ridiculous that just for example Doom 2016 is currently £45 on Switch on amazon even though its a lesser version graphic wise / framerate wise and could pick up on PS4 for about a tenner.

While I obviously agree with the sentiment lol at suggesting Wii U games were ever good value.

Like you say PC games cost next to nothing in comparison. I got the Tomb Raider reebot about 1 year after release for 3 quid, you can't even get a SNES game for that on Wii U despite them being about 25 years old. Nintendo prices consistently take the piss, it's amazing they're still going really.
