Finally got round to listening to Funcrusher Plus recently. I never realised how similar in sound (not content) Company Flow and early Non Phixion were. El-B sounds like Ill Bill at times.

Soul On Ice is a very good album. love the diamond d remix of the title track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNwmVdHCfDc

edit: listening back through this again today. it really is fucking great. like you say, still quite underrated for some reason...

after a few pretty tepid releases, i quite enjoyed his album with apollo brown a couple of years back actually... you heard it mate?

Rasassination as pretty crap but had a few good tunes. Van Gogh was better though. The title track on that is incredible.

yeah, i'm not a fan of Rasassination but there was some good stuff on Van Gogh

p.s. love Funcrusher Plus. one of my favourite albums of all time. still sounds ahead of its time 20 years later. if you like that, try these (if you haven't already!):

damn got goosebumps from that, reminds me a bit of falling down. I still don't understand why he never reached those heights again, never waited so long for an album and been so disapointed from dragon of a family..
I still contend that this is one of the best verses i have ever heard (3 mins in)

New Dabbla on high focus. Not my favourite but still decent.

P.s. re: Jehst... everyone seemed to be pretty disappointed with Billy Green is Dead but I enjoyed it. Yeah the beats are a bit different from what he normally rhymes over but he still kills it on pretty much every track

I've been looking for a Lewis Parker beat for a while now, maybe someone here can help; I first heard it because somebody posted a youtube video of some US MCs rhyming over his beat without crediting it, and there was a bit of stink about it (I think the MCs may eventually have explained that they had done it as a 'tribute' or something). I then forgot where/who/etc - it was probably in this thread

Any ideas? It had a really nice smokey vibe.

Yeah I'm in love with the beats more than anything. I think he is an average MC but his earlier stuff is his best. I think he has got worse with age. Last time I heard one of his tracks his accent seemed to have changed which didn't suit him. Some cod American twang!

He went to school in my area (Canterbury), different school to me but same set of shared friends. A lot of his first album references the town. We used to put on a lot of local parties, house parties etc when we were 17/18 and he would always come and do 30 mins of MCing - probably what became his earliest stuff. I remember at one of the house parties my mate brought round his brand new 1210s and towards the end of the night Lewis killed the power so all the lights went out and then nicked both the head shells from the decks. Always makes me laugh thinking back about it the cheeky fucker. Good times lol!

been digging through a lot of old madlib and dilla this week and most people will know all the famous stuff...

their collabo album Champion Sound is still pretty underrated though. better than Donuts and just as good as Madvillain imo
