It's depressing watching Julian's hairline disappearing over his head in the later seasons

Series 8 is still pretty decent though

Mike Clattenburg brought so much to the series, along with Barrie Dunn and Mike Volpe. When they left the show kept all the chaos but lost all the clever writing and little touches that balanced it out. I’ve got the Series 1-6 DVD boxset and it’s got tonnes of outtakes and commentary, I think a lot more work went into the scripting back then.

Yep I've got that box set. I watched the 7th series but felt it plummeted in quality compared to the previous 6. Not watched anything beyond 7 apart from catching the odd, rubbish, episode.

I still watch every episode, it's a life time commitment now. Never seen an episode I didn't enjoy.

Yeah I like the newer episodes, not quite as good but definitely not shit.

Just going through the films now. The Xmas special with Rickys speech at church was a particular highlight lol

The season with snoop and tom arnold is the worst thing ive ever seen in my whole life.

Season 3 is the apex of it. This was the sweet spot when the characters, writing and actors were all peaking and the whole season is just pure gold from start to finish. Season 1 & 2 are brilliant but have some weird quirks like Julian listening to the voicemails that they later discarded. The first 6 seasons are all great in their own ways but 3 always sticks out as the one where everyone just nailed it.

It jumped the shark when they started leaving the park regularly and with that Swayze express bullshit, season 7? And was never the same again.

New ones have the odd moment but they’re all so old and fat and the writing just isn’t the same.

Because I’ve got the 1-6 box I’ve grown to feel it as one long series really. It works perfectly too, as season 6 has a great ending. I haven’t noticed much difference in the quality between 1 and 6, I love them all. They explained the voicemail thing on the DVD, at first it was an efficient way to set the scene. Some of them are great like this one lol

Julian. It's Ricky here... just lettin' you know that, uh, I've thought about this, I feel I have no other options, I'm gona go down to Lahey's trailer, I'm gonna break in, and I'm basically probably going to kill Mr Lahey, and I'm thinkin' about killin' Randy as well, and I'm gonna take the porno tape back. I've talked to Bubbles about it and he's probably gonna give me a hand 'cos we both can't have this tape floatin' around, so... anyway, you know, I was kinda countin' on you to maybe help plan this but if you don't want to, that's up to you, just hope you won't feel guilty when me and Bubbles are in jail and you know you could have prevented a murder. Talk to you later.

Series 7 I hated the first time I watched it, it grew on me after watching it a few times on Netflix. The thing I love about the early series is that the more you watch them you notice the little touches they have in the storyline, it’s quite feelsy in places and you really develop a connection with the characters. I don’t feel that so much now as it’s pure carnage but I still watch all the new episodes.

the voicemails were hilarious. Julian dealing with shit all day trying to stay straight, comes home thinking he's getting to relax, plays his messages sipping his drink, face screwing up slowly

Totally. I think with the first few series there was a real sense of wonder within the cast & crew with how popular this weird, small budget show was becoming, and it comes through in the writing and performances, it feels like everyone was mates and they put everything into it, and it feels genuine. Eventually that popularity turned into money which brought political issues and brought out the worst in some people.
I've read some interviews that say Barrie Dunn and Mike Volpe in particular were happy to shaft some of the younger guys to benefit themselves, and after that's when you start to see the core crew changing and the tone of the writing follow.

Pretty emotion charged and would guess it's not 100% true, but paints a picture

The earlier seasons are just magic, some of the greatest TV ever

The irony that Cory and Trevor are constantly fucked over in the show itself.

Frig off?!
When I uploaded it it played for a few frames and then reverted to an 'x' so I assumed some piece of forum software was throttling it, because it's quite a big file

Julian's gaffa tape sling lol
I love the scenes where Ricky has to interact with members of the public
