Its time for me to get a new watch.

My Tag Aquaracer is looking a little like 'my first watch'

I'm erring towards an Omega Sea or Speedmaster or another Tag and i have about £1800 - 2000 to spend but am open to other brands/models.

Got any recommendations? I dont want anything ostentatious, classy and understated is me.

Would you consider selling it? How much do you think you might get for it if you did? Still content with mine but curious how much (if at all) they hold their value.

I break watches to quickly and easily to deem spending more than a fiver on one. Actually I don't wear a watch, they fuck me off tbh

Would you mind getting one second hand? If you don't then have a look at http://www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk/ and http://www.watches.co.uk/ anything you get off either of those 2 you won't be able to tell the difference between that and a new watch anyway. Give blowers a call and speak to them about what you want and your budget and he'll advise you on whats out there.

For that kind of money i'm not really sure. Personally, i'd try and get another grand or so together and look at a second hand Brietling Navitimer. If you're sticking within that then a seamaster is probably the one.

I do like some smart watches but unless I had huge disposable income I would never buy anything more than a couple of hundred

This is true as well, I'd end up not wearing it

What Aquaracer do you have? This is mine...

I corrected myself earlier, its a 2000 on which the newer Aquaracers are based.

Sorry, its a 2000 edition, its got quite a small face, comparitively. Hence the 'my first' thing.

Nah, it was a gift. I think its work about £650 now, looking at eBay and the like.

That is very pretty.

I'm not sure on the second hand thing, I'll need to do some research. It would certainly have to be in perfect condition.

I opted for this in the end, in black.

Pretty much failed at the understated plan, but its not as bold as some of the others I saw.

Bump.

Can someone more in the know please recommend me some watches around the £600 mark. £800 absolute max.

I like Raymond Weil and Omega but their nicer pieces are well out of my price range. I want a leather strap and something classic and understated, not covered in diamonds and shit.

I wish I could afford this:

That's a bit lovely. Blatantly far too expensive for my requirements though sadly.

The only advice I can offer is avoid 'designer' brands as they tend to be nice to look at but have poor quality movements. Tag Heuer do decent watches at the upper end of your limit, my Tag was a 2000 Series, about £675 in 1999 I think. There are simiar available now, although they dont make that particular model.

Take a look at what Omega have to offer too.

Movement is the most important factor.

Dont buy a shit one.

My 10 year old Tag is fine. Scratches on the bracelet, but they can be polished. Keep it serviced and properly maintained and it'll be alright.

I don't like your fashion watch but that's a nice Tag you've picked out, I liked that one as well but didn't get it for the same reason you gave, I regret it now to be honest reckon I could have pulled it off after seeing my toothpick mate come swanning in the pub with it on his wrist look as out of place as a bacon sarnie at a jewish wedding.
